Safely remove hardware disconnects the Net

    Hi,

I have the ADSL modem in on one port and a usb pen in another. If I'm using the Net and I use the safely remove hardware (left click) icon on the tray, it disconnects the adsl as well - and this is as the pop up menu appears - I haven't clicked on anything.

I'ts annoying as I then need to close the connection prompt and take the usb pen out before trying to reconnect.

Any ideas? Is it a 'fix' from microsoft (I had around 6 to install this weekend)?

Does your DSL modem not have an Ethernet port?

It could be a bug with the pen itself...
Are you sure you're clicking to disable only the pen, and not just everything connected to that USB Root Hub?

The modem is a usb connected one. Useful as I need to switch between my comp and my wifes comp (seeing as xp pro decided no to allow internet through one or the other machines).

    Right the little icon

    when clicked gives:

This is when the net gets disconnected and you have to close the connection fully before redialing, I haven't clicked on the wrong item in the menu because only the menu has appeared.
Its probably a 'feature' of xp pro.

Either that or because its in the lower front and not the upper from usb port, for some reason its disconnecting.

Either way its plain annoying, but since I don't plug the usb pen in all the time, I can live without it...

Plus I have had a camera and portablel hd plugged in the back, the modem in the front and the usb pen as well and it didn't disconnect the net. Weird huh?

If you are double clicking the icon, do you get a new form then, that looks like this one?

If so, do that, then choose the USB thingy you want, and press the stop button, wait a few sec, then press Close.
