    Posting and Printing Threads

I don't understand WHY I am not able to use:

    1. Font, Size, or Color
    2. Use any of the editing choices (Bold, Underline, ... VBCode Tags,... etc.
    3. How to save/print the thread as TEXT instead of HTML

Can someone explain where you change your user profile in order to use these
OR what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks
    David

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

    Thanks for responding.

    That's what I'm using.

Based on your comment my assumption is you also CANNOT Use:

    1. Font, Size, or Color
    2. Use any of the editing choices (Bold, Underline, ... VBCode Tags,... etc.
    3. Save/print the thread as TEXT instead of HTML

    Thanks

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

I use the standard editor too, and have no problem with:

    1. Font, Size, or Color
    2. Use any of the editing choices (Bold, Underline, ...
    VB Code:
    1. VBCode Tags,... etc.

One thing to note though, is that you should either:
    a) select the text before pressing the relevant button, or
    b) press the button, enter your text, then press the button again.

If you just press the button then enter the text, you do not get the "closing" tag for whichever feature you have selected, and so it is not rendered.

    As for this:
    3. Save/print the thread as TEXT instead of HTML

You just need to click on "Thread tools" just above the first post of the thread, and select "show printable version".

It isn't quite text format (there are boxes around each post, and code is still displayed in scrollable boxes [which could be a problem]), but it's much better for printing than the standard view.

    Hope that helps

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

    Thanks for response guys.

Just tried highlighting text and selecting bold "B". Editor threw me out of this box and up to top of Window (start of thread).

Left clicking Thread Tool throw me to bottom of Window (End of Thread).
Right clicking Thread Tool brings up the normal Window PopUp Window Choices
    such as Print.

Must be because I have Scripting and JAVA off. Only reason I can think of???

This is a "NEW" Reply to Thread. I don't even see anyplace where it says
"EDIT, edit, or Edit". I just highlighted your name (above), clicked "B" and again got taken to top of thread.

Thought I'd mention that I noticed several threads in the VB Classic Codebank that do NOT belong -- for whatever reason people put questions there. Could you notify the moderator of the CodeBank re this to see if he/she wants to correct.

OK, so instead of trying to edit an existing post you clicked the button, right? Then you typed my name in the editor window, highlighted it and clicked the B and you were sent to the top of the page. Is that right?

Thanks for the heads up on the CodeBank.

I think this might enlighten you two. If not let me know, and version 2 will be out.

PS: Read step 6 carefully. It might solve something.

I looked at your thread (nice!) and it seemed that it was missing a[/list]tag so I added it, but I still don't see step 6.

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

Thanks.....I forgot too proof read it.

What I ment is that if you have written so much in the text field that it ads a scroolbar, then it will jump to the top of the text box. Not sure if that is what he ment. Guess not since he said to the bottom of the thread too. But it at least gives him the direction too choose the standard editor. Can't see that he ever answered that one.

But since the buttons seems like they are using JS, I guess that is the answer why it doens't work for him.

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

Thanks for helping guys. NOTEME, thanks especially for your efforts of WYSIWYG.

YES - I am using standard editor.
    Still doesn't work.

One thing I noticed under "Posting Rules" is that:

    HTML Code is Off.

HOW DO I TURN IT ON -- as no selection under UserCP that I can see.

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

I think it is the forum that has turned it off. So it won't be abused as in:

    - Malisious stuff
    - Irritating flashy stuff
    - And mabye: so it won't stir up the HTML section when posting code

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

Got any other ideas why yours works and mine doesn't?

I do have BOTH "Run Scripts" and "JAVA" turned off in IE.

    Bingo!

The features are implemented using JavaScript (some form of script is required for functionality like that).

In order for it to work I think you will need to enable "Run Scripts", but the fact you have it turned off probably means that there is a reason for it to be turned off on your machine.

The alternative is to enter the formatting codes manually, a list of the codes can be found within the FAQ here.

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

    Thanks for responding si_the_geek.

Turned both JAVA and Scripting "ON" and got same result -- none usage of formatting. Have been doing manually all along.

I'm sure it must be some browser setting that is not compatible with Forum requirements. Would like to know which, or have forum put a list (picture best like NoteMe provided) of what settings are required (assume IE) so I can at least determine what's wrong without toggling alot of switches.

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

In reading the thread, I was also going to say to turn on the running of scripts. But if that didn't work, then it is a bit more baffling. Are you running XP SP2? If so, you may have said not to run scripts on this site. That is a guess though.

    Still using Win98.

If your not aware XP license gives MS the right to come on your system anytime they want.

Just as a test. Have you tried with any other browsers? Like Fx/Opera/Mozilla?

Resolved Re: Posting and Printing Threads

Thanks for eveyones help and time.

It was a NO SCRIPTING Issue -- as well as ME.

While I have Scripting set to "NO" in IE, I was subconsiously hitting NO for the Scripting Messages Boxes on VBForums when prompted. By making a consious effort to hit "YES" for EVERY box, it appears everything now works.

    Re: Posting and Printing Threads

Good to hear that it worked out.

PS: just as a note. Can you please add a green check mark to the first post in this thread, so everyone can see that it is resolved.

    Thanks
