Re: two floppy drives work on one ribbon
that's the way all computers were before they had hard disks. then, when hard disks came along, most computers only had one drive. then, when CD's came along, very few computers had a floppy at all. the cable hasn't changed, though.

Not all, one of the motherboards that i picked up (and put together ) for a friend came with a single connector floppy cable and a single connector IDE cable (what.... he cheaped out -- i like my shiny Asus cables)

Ok, I've never seen one, then. But how would you connect 2 drives if the cable only had one connector on it?

Re: two floppy drives work on one ribbon
That is incorrect because a cabel (not form the motherboard) needs to go into the back o f the floppy drive which i only put in one of them so the other floppy drive at the top is working just on a ribon!

How is this different from the way things have been done for the last 25 years?

Wait. Are you saying that only one of your floppy drives has a power cable connected to it, and the other one works fine, with just the ribbon cable connected to it?
