    USB devices [resolved]

Anyone know any reason not to use a usb fax modem connected to a windows 2003 server, as opposed to a standard serial port modem?
Basically are usb modems better or worse?

    Better, much better.

Serial (and indeed LPT) is a legacy technology and quite slow. USB is hotswappable and significantly faster.

You won't see many laptops with serial ports these days. They favour USB and rightly so.

Thanks, just checking, as just a bit worried they might be less stable. Think I heard it somewhere (maybe just making it up), and defo' don't want the server crashing or having problems sending faxes.

It would be relatively newer technology, and there might be some issues still unresolved, or there may have been such issues, but eventually (or by now) this will go away.

    Re: USB devices

Thanks all, had problems with usb modem in the end and went with serial port ones (think mainly due to my boss going out and getting the cheapest usb modems he could find, so cheap that I went to there website for support and the website was no longer there).
So have gone for one of are old 56K us robotics ones).

    Thanks for your help.
