I have had a pocket PC for the last 2 years or so. And suddenly the screen just turned black. It works when I have the power cable connected. But not if I just want to use it on the battery. Do I have to change it. I didn't know I had to do that (dumb me). Or can it be something else. Is it worth a shot? Is it hard to do? Or is it totaly safe to upen it up. Like a cell phone?

It sounds like it could be the backlight settings, I know mine goes very dark (almost black depending on light conditions) when the backlight is off.

I don't know if you've got PocketPC 2003 (2002 should be the same), but I know I can set the backlight differently for battery/mains power.

It could also be worth checking the battery (or trying a different one), maybe it's dead

Yeah, I first thought it was broken. Because the screen is not just dark. It is totatly shut off. But since it is working with the power cable, I don't think it is broken. And I just saw a place where they sold batteries for it. It is a iPaq 3630, can't remember what OS. But it does the job I want (except maybe GPS), so it would be stupid to buy a new one, if it is just the battery.

It definatly sounds like the battery to me, especially when i saw this:

Do I have to change it. I didn't know I had to do that (dumb me).

Either charge it or get it repaired/replaced, these would seem like the most logical steps.

Is the thing in the plastic bag to the left here (in the red circle) the battery. If so, it is going to be a lot of job to attach the battery plug (the blue circle to the left) to the chip again (blue circle to the right).

Still don't know what DIY is...but it was just as I though.


Since I was in 6 stores and no one had that kind of battery I had to order it online. Bought it on a Norwegian version of EBay (it is brand new) and I got it for about $40-50 New one is nearly $100 here. He had sold about 150 other things and no bad complains so I trust him. It will arive here in a few days.


But the good news is that I don't have to write that tutorial now....just hope I don't miss those small screws. They where HARD to get out...no iron fitting that hole...

Good luck. Doesn't look too hard, you just connect a cable to a socket.

The tricky part is that the cable is so short that you have to nearly close the whole thing and stick your pinky in there and try too attach it. And it didn't sit good either. I opened it pretty carefully, but when I had opened it a cm or two it fell off.

I got my battery from my QXL guy (the eBay thingy) today. Have just installed. It went smooth, and I can now finaly use it without the cable any more......I am happy. Thanks for all your help.

Well there was one part in that tutorial that was not mentioned that should have been there that first caused me to have some problems. If you see on the picture that I posted. On the right side, where I placed the blue ring. On the left side of the same PockedPC part you can barely see some wires going up in a white plastic thingy. During the deasembling, that part got a bit loose. Not mubh but enought to not make the display work at all.

Just as a side note.



And I am unfortunatly not able to rate you agian, since I did it in some other thread. But I will remember this and rate you when ever I can when I have rated a few others first..
