for some reason tabs bother me, I could never do tabbed IMs or tabbed internet...it just never worked for me haha

Wow, thats pretty funny. I'm the exact opposite. I'm a tab addict, tabbed instant messaging and internet. I even modified my WindowManager so I can tab windows together.
Maybe its the Windows GAIM port that is buggy. I haven't really had any trouble with it yet.
[EDIT] Trillian was pretty nice too if I remember.

Trillian is quite nice. Gives you the option of logging on to five or six different IM services, including AIM, MSN, and ICQ... I just like it because the buddly list in Trillian is hidden from the task bar. Shows up next to the volume control.. quite nice.
