ASUS A7V600-X - NO Video, Solid IDE light? [Working]
Just got a brand new ASUS A7600-X and 512mb DDR 400 ram
I removed my old ECS K7S5A from my case. Cleaned cases out.
Removed AMD AthlonXP 1700+ from K7S5A mb and Fan
Cleaned processor and Heatsync and applied new heat stuff (used the $14/bottle kind)
installed new motherboard into old case.
Installed Ram into slot 1.
Installed NVidia TNT2 M64 32MB AGP Video card.
Connected Powersupply
Connected two IDE Burners to Secondary IDE Channel
Connected 1x Western digital 120GB IDE Hard drive to Primary Channel alone.
Connected 1x Western digital 120GB SATA Hard drive to SATA1
Connected Floppy.
Connected Power Switch / Reset Switch / IDE Activity Light
---------------------------------------
Turned on.
Worked Perfectly.
Installed XP SP2
Ran Windows Update (1x Restart)
Installed Office 2003
Installed Visual Studio .Net 2003 (Required 1 restart because of Office)
Installed Sound Drivers
Installed Video Card Drivers (Restart required, i had a issue w/ the windows update version of the driver)
Installed JRE (1 restart)
Installed Azureus
Installed mIRC
Customised a bit...
Slept for 12h (computer on)
Messed with Windows again in the morning (can remember excally what i installed)
Restarted. (i could have shut down, i cant remember for sure but i know i tried to boot it right away)
DID NOT TOUCH ANYTHING!!!!!!!!
Solid IDE Activity Light / No video
Reset powersupply/powercycled.
Removed IDE Devices, tried to boot: Solid IDE Activity Light / No video
Removed Floppy, tried to boot: Solid IDE Activity Light / No video
Removed SATA Device, tried to boot: Solid IDE Activity Light / No video
Made sure video card / ram securly in place. tried to boot: Solid IDE Activity Light / No video
Cleared CMOS: Solid IDE Activity Light / No video
Removed Ram: Evenly paced BEEP
Restored Ram: Removed Video card: Evenly paced BEEP
Restored Video Card: replaced Powersupply: Solid IDE Activity Light / No video
Rechecked jumper configuration: Fine
Checked monitor: Fine (using it to make this post)
Tried PCI video card: nothing ( i dont have another 1.5v AGP video card anywhere)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In short im completely stumped, pissed off and drunk at the moment.
Hopefully i was understandable in this post.
ANY IDEAS??????
I searched w/ google and came up with this:
http://forums.pimprig.com/showthread.php?threadid=28540
No solution and its quite similar.
----------------------------
EDIT:
Just felt like confirming where the problem lies:
I just tested the Video Card In a ECS K7S5A PRO: Worked Fine
Tested the Ram in the ECS K7S5A Pro: worked Fine
Brorrowed the power supply from the K7S5A Pro machine: got the same No Video/Solid IDE Activity
NOTE: NO IDE CABLES OR DEVICES WERE CONNECTED!
All that was connected was the Processor/HSF, motherboard, video card, power supply -- NOTHING ELSE!
EDIT Again: Currently running fine w/ old motherboard ... gonna return Asus mb for another one.

Re: ASUS A7V600-X - NO Video, Solid IDE light?
that's about the only thing that you can do. I'm surprised it didn't crash when it happened. That's why it's a good idea to burn in a new system for 3 days straight. If nothing breaks in this time, then it prolly will last for a long time without failing.
