a dirty fix would be to edit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DriveIcons\~DRIVE LETTER~\DefaultIcon\(Default)

simply put the path to an icon there
