If I knew what you were thinking I could answer your
    question.

The answer is not necessarily easy to find even if you DO
    have the URL.

Remember, 2 parts, knowing facts is useless if it doesn't
    lead to knowing results.

The quote that you posted was taken from the The Synod of Whitby. which is about the christian missionaries from island celebrating easter on a different date in about 590ad. The outcome was that easter was changed to a different date

Well, correct as far as it goes. It's somewhat like saying
that the Magna Carta was signed and prevented King John
from beating up the nobles, however.

The speaker was supposedly King Oswy of Northumbria
(specifically of Bernicia). The effect of the statement
was to prevent the spreading of the Celtic Church of St.
Columba into Northern Europe. This was very important as
the Celtic Church did NOT recognize the ultimate authority
of the Bishop of Rome (the Pope).

The Synod of Whitby effectively sealed the Celtic Church
from southern England, and the Christianized Saxons and
Angles which could have provided the access to the Jutland
and Northern Germany subsequently enjoyed by the Roman
Church. Without the barrier to the Celtic Church, the
expanding Roman Church would have run into already
converted politically potent German rulers. This would
have played hob with expansion of Papal Power. Imagine
what would have happened to Europe, if Charlemagne's
children had been not been beholden to the Roman Church.

    Your turn.
