Brad!
Old PostCounts were inaccurate.
Some had been artificially tweaked by mods.
Some were a little high because some "deleted" threads really weren't deleted, which left you with post counts from those threads.
If you've been here long enough, you might have lost posts counts by deleting posts or threads in chit chat. Even though they don't count towards your PCounts, there was a bug that deducted them from your PCounts upon deletion.
So, As of yesterday morn, Brad adjusted everybodies PCounts to reflect exactly whats in the Forum DBase.

Pino, I think you confused "had" with "have". In the old forum counts had been tweeked but in the new forum that have not been tweeked. There has been no manual intervention and all post counts now reflect what is actually stored in the database.

The new forum i feel is too cluttered,
the color scheme is bad. Too much there...can barely read anything its so jumbled. I have made less frequent drops in this place.
What a shame.

As you can see from this thread there are opinions both ways. I have some problems with the new icons but the color scheme seems perfectly fine to me and, as a matter of fact, it's now easier to tell when you've read a thread. Maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it so hang in there.

I never really understood the value of the post counts. If someone could give me a very logical answer as to their value, my opinion might be swayed; but personally, I think the post count should be removed.
What is the greater reward - a higher post count or helping someone else where you once struggled?

I agree 100%...I am on this other forum where they worship people and even talk about post counts all day and all night.
Who gives a rats a**!!!!

Yeah, I agree to this, as I said before it doesn't matter too much as with Megatron. Loosing a 10,000 post could make you decide to leave the forum. But hey, are we here to compete with each other? Not me... as ZeBula8 put it, we are here to help! But then again the MODs have a pretty good explanation why there is a post count. Maybe we should just retain the level.
Also, post count sometimes works as a disadvantage to a member, because some member ignores you when they see you have less post counts than them, although you definitely answered their problem. They would wait for some guru (guru as in with high post count) to post their solution and then that what they will accept. And when you review it, you both offered the same solution.
Well, at least not all members are like these. As for me, a simple thanks will do.
I hope I didn't sound like I'm whining...

Agreed. It was a little too loud at first, but as you actually visit the place more, you get accustomed to it. Now all we're waiting for is the [Highlight=VB] tags. Living without [Highlight=VB] is like not smoking for a day.

Just an FYI:
When we had the great crash, a few Users lost their accounts, {as can be seen by viewing the old threads. You'll see many posts by anonymous "Guests", and some Guests who actually have usernames.}.
These Users basically lost all their posts, and had to reup.
Otheres seemingly just lost posts.
And/Or a combination thereof, where some posts of users got corruptedly assigned to nameless Guests.
Once the Great Crash occured, several of these Users requested the Mods to tweak their posts counts to reflect what they had been PreCrash. The Mods were kind enough to do so.
I believe Meg had been off-forum during most of this, probably knee deep in a months long project. He had acumulated massive number of posts pre-crash, helping people wherever he could. {Hence, My own confusion over wether "Megatron" was a good transformer, or bad. But in this instance, Meg was/is known to be a great and highly respected member}.
Well, when he reappeared, most all the users who lost there posts had been readjusted. Meg just found out about it, and I believe didn't really say much about it.
However, some of us DID bring it up, about his major loss of counts. I believe it was Marty who adjusted it, but I'm not exactly certain. Anyways, Meg regained his lofty PostCount status once again.
So, this newest loss isn't new to him, and, like before, he's making no big deal over it.
of course, I'd still like to see him get readjusted again, but legitametly.
Marty, is there any way we could get his old, Guest Status Posts reassigned back to him??? I believe they're still around.

Re: The New Forum Is Great !
Thanks NotLKH for that excellent summary of what happened. The moderators and admins are still discussing the issue but at present the consensus is that if we make an exception for one person (no matter how deserving) that we need to make it for all and we're not willing to do that.

Thanks for the info!
I just noticed another thing about the post count. I am currently subscribed in one of the threads in the DB Dev't section. I haven't posted since last week and when I replied to it, my post count incremented. I believed the post count adds up on every separate topics.

Reason: Post count incremented again.

To answer the question regarding converting guest posts to users --
The developers looked into this and a number of issues come up that make it inpractical to do. One being that the guest posts are for older accounts and not all of those accounts necessarily match up with existing accounts.

Re: The New Forum Is Great !
Let's get back to this thread's title for a moment: it says that new forum is great.
I don't necessary find this to be true. We do have a new buttons and calendar and menus under the calendar and memebers list ... However, this forum was designed originally to help someone to understand programming in the simplest way possible (perhaps by presenting your code samples). So, what did we get instead: pages are loading longer, vb code presentation isn't there anymore but we do have nice buttons ...

the search feature leaves something to be desired. it may be the indexing, but, I am having trouble finding things that have previously been found. I didn't save them, as I thought that it'd take a minute to find them again.
Now, it seems like I can't find some of the things. the flickering cursor is a problem, and I hope that it gets resolved. seems ok right now, but earlier, it was back.

Are expecting if you take that attitude then it will get changed to the old version or something?
As for the VBCode if you'd read any of the other threads you'll see it is going to be put back on but it was a hack to start with so it needs to be done again for this version and its taking time.

And as per VBCODE tags I did read all those related posts majority of which are pure speculations ...
Although, I am not trying to show any attitude but rather expressing my very own opinion regardless of anyone like it or not - that's what Forum Feedback is for. Isn't it ?
