    Power Posters

I've created a new user group called Power Poster. People with over 4096 posts will be promoted into this group in addition to being a regular member. Promotion into this group should give you the added features of a custom title, a higher PM count (300 instead of 200), and a higher total attachement size.

This is a new feature of 3.0, so we will need to work out the kinks of using it. This should go into affect some time today.

In the future, there may be added requirements to becoming a Power Poster that include having been a member for a year and having a certain minimum reputation level.

.....and I've turned this back off.

Threads with posts by power posters seemed to go blank. I'll have to see if we can figure out what went wrong.

Brad, how is it designated that the member is of the Power Poster's group? Extra line in the custom title or something else?

In your profile (public) there is a section that lists groups you belong to (right now nobody belongs to any secondary groups.

We are currently working to make the Power Poster group work correctly, so it won't show up for anyone right now.

It is not enabled yet. And Brad don't tell us much about what isn't yet implemented. But that is an other thing then the rating system. Seems the same to me, but I guess it is an other way of getting reputation then getting rated.

    Re: Power Posters

    In brief....

Reputations are ratings that can be posted on individual posts rather than on a thread. The rating is then tied to the person who made that post -- thus positive ratings increase the person's "score" and negative ratings decrease this value. This value becomes the person's reputation. The higher the number the more likely the person is helpful as they have most likely gotton lots of positive ratings on their posts. CodeGuru has this in place on their forum.

Ranks are basically status items that you can earn by meeting criteria. These will then display extra information or graphics under your Title.

Secondary Groups (such as Power Poster) are like ranks, however, instead of giving visual indicators on your posts/profile, they provide additional forum features. For example, Power Posters whill have the ability to set a custom title. Groups can also be used as just that -- a way to group people together. While I won't do a Chit Chatter's club, we may do other groups in the future. Groups can be set up to automatically happen (like we are doing with Power Posters) or to allow for people to request to join them.

All three of these are new features, so my plan is to get other forum features working before doing much with them. As already indicated, I'm working to use the Groups to set up Power Posters (primarily because this is the way to now get custom titles after a certain number of posts). Once we clean up the other issues with the upgrade, I'll look at implimenting reputations. This may be a while.

    clear as mud?

With a membership fee in the negative range, where we get paid to be a part of this, several of our members might well be more than happy to pay it...

    Re: Power Posters

I prefer things to be a bit quirky, so how about a club club. There would be a variety of possible meanings for that.

As for reputations, I think it would be a good idea if the whole chit-chat forum were not counted, and no voting (or whatever mechanism is included) be allowed there. The reason for that is that there are people who are quite helpful in the regular area, but quite opinionated in other areas. Who would be an especially good example.....hmmmmm.....let's see.....how about HoneyBee. I don't object to his opinions, but the right wing of the forum does, and he might get a bad rep without justification, as he's just another guy with ideas when he's in the programming world.

    Re: Power Posters

The power post tag on power posters is a "Rank" for those who care. The User group for power posters is still in the works. The user group adds the extra benefits of custom title, storage, etc.

Erm is it meant to make all the details bold or was it meant to just be the Title?

But I can't see where I can change my costum title.

[Edit]And I can't see that my attachment quota has been incresed, or any other benefits. So I guess that only the group has been formed, and nothing more.

At the moment the Power Users is a Rank (which can't be linked to the extra stuff, only a new title and the bold thing), the plan is to get the Public Groups working then you will be able to have the extra stuff .

Ohhh..thats what he ment...I thought those two sentences where about the same thing. So this is just a rank. Ok, and the criterias is just 4096 posts or something like that. And nothing more to it?

Currently that is correct; however, once the group for Power Posters is set up, then the extra goodies of custom title, etc. will work. Right now there is an issue on this forum keeping it from working. I've got it working on another forum, so I know we can make it work, I just have to track down what is different here.
