    Really all you need.

The 2400 is 2.4 ghz which is plenty of cpu even for the latest games.

So the only 2 areas is max out that memory and really good video card and you are set.

I'd agree, but I believe 512 MB of the fastest RAM you can afford, plus the best GPU you can afford.

Well, i guess all i need to know is what cards do you recommend for that will work with my computer?

Also why 512 mb instead of 1 gig?

even my 256 is not enough to support all of my programs i run, not sure if 512 would do the job either

How much money you save on going with 512 instead of 1 Gig can be put toward the price of the vid card. I can't see you needing a gig, but I could be wrong. Anyway, the day you need a Gig may be down the road, easier to upgrade RAM by a few bucks than a vid card.

I'm not saying you don't need 1 Gig, just that I know I don't yet.

    Re: PC suggestions (customization/upgrading)

512 is good enough for XP. More is preferred for a server.
Memory prices continue to drop, so add it in the future if you need it.
I have 512 in my laptop, and don't regret not having more.

    Re: PC suggestions (customization/upgrading)

I would recommmend you upgrading your motherboard (if it doesnt support DDR) so you can go w/ 512(or 1024) DDR and a 8x AGP video card when you got some extra cash.

I have had 512mb DDR for a few years now and just thinking that i need some more.

Unless your a hardcore gamer i doubt you'll need more than 512mb.
