All Day, I couldn't post from My Work PC...
But I was able to post from my Backup Work PC.
I just tested posting again, and I found that I could post.
Earlier {10 amish} I tried rebooting, changing my Internet Settings, and Nada thing worked.
Now that its 7 hours later, I can post from my main PC.

OOPS. Forgot something.
I'd log in, the Forum would say "Welcome Back, NotLKH".
So I'd go to chit chat, and find a thread just begging for a post.
I'd select "Reply" or "Quote" and get that nasty Insufficient Permissions Page.
I'd click back to Chit Chat, and Find myself unlogged.
So, I'd log in again, and repeat this process, over, and over, and over again.
Of course, like I said, I had no problem whatsoever on my other PC.

Re: All Day, I couldn't post from My Work PC...
That seems like a problem with the cookie not being saved properly in your system. Do you have IE block cookies settings enabled? Check if thats blocking any VBF cookie. These kind of issues tend to happen when cookies cant be placed on local machine so the software cant track the fact that you are logged in.

Hmmm.
My Cookie settings haven't changed, and I've had no problems since 5 PM est.
Ehh. Might be a non-issue.
I'll see tomorrow.

I wrote a forum in the past and this occured if the cookie expiry date was not specified specifically. Cookie only lasted for the one browser session. I will have to see if I close the intial window and re-visit the site if that shows me as logged in.

Looks like cookies is saved, if I close my intial window and close it and re-visit the site, it recogises me and shows me as logged in.
So looks like you cant open a new window and carry on using that as before? Dont know Lou if thats happeing to you?
I guess we will have to wait for one of the admin to read this thread...

Re: All Day, I couldn't post from My Work PC...
I've had this problem with other vB3 forums. I login, but don't get logged in. I log in the second time and then finally get the access to my settings and other stuff.

vbforums.com and www.vbforums.com would be considered two different domains, right?

I just tried it, and the same thing happened! Never had that happen before. I currently have two windows open, and I am typing in the second one, so I know that I'm logged in. Maybe that points to a different server?
OIC. Different info at the end. That must be causing it.

EDIT: I am still logged on, as I clicked on Who's Online, and was restricted.
Oh, COOL! Don't have to do anything special to get links to work!
Don't have to use HERE anymore.

Yes you are correct they would considered 2 different domain. Usually you can set up alias to point to the same place but seems like VBF hasn't and i tottaly missed that the URL was without www.
Well thats the advantage of having an extra eye i guess...

Re: All Day, I couldn't post from My Work PC...
A solution to this is to use the new [thread=ThreadID]Text[/thread] tags. These will make the URL appear for correctly for whoever is viewing it....I've been using it where ever I can instead of just posting the URL directly. You also get a small tooltip that way which just tells you the thread ID.....
For example this thread:
https://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=315226
Another solution is to use www.vbforurms.com cos this appears to be the more popular one . However NoteMe uses the wrong one .
EDIT: Opps. I just tested it and the thread tags don't chnage they just use the more popular www.vbforums.com one .
When your thread has been resolved please edit the original post in the thread ( )
and amend "-[RESOLVED]-" to the end of the title and change the icon to , Thank you.
When posting Code use the [VBCode]Code Here[/VBCode] tags to be able to use the code highlighting.

I thought that the www. just pointed to the same server, and used port 80 always.

Re: All Day, I couldn't post from My Work PC...
It does all point to the same servers but the Cookies are dependant, different domains are not allowed to access cookies from other domains, its a security issue, doesn't matter that they all belong to the same site . Its possible for www.VBForums.com & VBForums.com to use the same cookies but www.VB-Forums.com & www.VBForums.com are not able to. .

Ow Ignore my edit it does actually work...but strange though......
If you use the Thread Tags then it makes a link like this:
HTML Code:
<a href="showthread.php?t=315226" target="_blank">http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=315226</a>
So as you can see it will use the Domain you are viewing it with however if you don't supply a text value to use then it "Displays" the www. one yet the link uses where ever you are...pretty neat .

EM, not sure if you mean both of the VBF points to 1 site or you are sayin www and without www are the same in general. As far as I know they are two separate domain and you could create two totally unreleated dns from the same url (one with www and one without). Just thougt i will mention it in response to dglienna's post .

Re: All Day, I couldn't post from My Work PC...
Well the way I have my website setup the domain with www. on the begining is added as an Alias so if you request www.electromanuk.com you goto the same place as if you typed electromanuk.com I imagine thats how this site is set up but on a larger scale cos there is also:
www.vbforums.com
vbforums.com
www.vb-forums.com
vb-forums.com
