Ok, now that I've had a chance to use this thing a bit....
The Reply button has got to move back to the right.

It used to be nice to be able to type into the message area, hit tab to select the Post button and hit the space bar to click it..... now the post icons are in the way.... *sigh*

Too much change too fast....

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback

Many of the issues raised about settings (max posts per page, number of seconds between posts, etc) are interesting to see. These setting are the same that they were in the previous version.

Some of the other things will be cleaned up per suggestions, but most of the clean up will start on Monday. I'll work with the mods to get a list and prioritize it. The things currently at the top of the list are the vbcode tag and the titles. (I'm going to look into the titles right now. A few settings were lost when the developers did the migration. I thought I caught most of them, but I hadn't looked at the titles. I'll do that now.

As to icon sizes and such, while many are bigger, the location that they are placed means that they making smaller versions wouldn't seem to save any screen space.

Keep the (valid) suggestions coming. I'm making a list and will put a lot of time next week into addressing them.

A setting got reset on the titles. I have fixed it and ran an update. Normal titles should now be showing.

Is it at all possible to put the forum dispaly criteria back at the top of the thread list. It is very annoying having tto scroll all the way down to the bottom to see whos online and change how many posts are displayed.

I assume you meant quota -- I had just increased that to 5,000,000 bytes. That would be just under 5 mg per person. If this isn't enough, then I'd need to know what you are uploading.

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback

Mostly midget porn...no seriously...I just looked through the first attachments....the CP can let me do that now...and I have 267 attachments since I came here. Most of them are pictures to show game and graphics related topics like the last 15 attachments are basic polygon diffrenses between OpenGL and DirectX, and transformation matrixes. But I must admitt there is some funny attachments too.

So if the quota is not going up, then I have to start to delete things. And then the funny attachements have to go first. So sorry Marty, but the avatar I made for you have to go...

I don't think he ment take the whole "What's Going On?" list away. But guys like Mendhak and other scared people have always been invisible (you too), so we can't see what thread you are replying too or what you are reading. Specialy if you mods are in the hidden areas. But now we can. Thats what he ment.

You mean NoteMe cannot stalk other members anymore. I liked the Who's online page. I like being nosey and looking at what everyone does. But I guess there is a privacy issure there.

So are we going to get that WISIWYG reply box like code guru have, its a pleasure using that?

I was just being a bit silly. (I need the rest of the day off... ). I agree that the cons of being able to see where people are outweigh the pros. Since we allow invisible mode, we needed to turn off the setting mentioned here. Makes sense to me.

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback

Thank you, Brad. Maybe it could be optional... You know to let others know where you are.

Because there are good things about letting people know where you are... The issue is if you really want them to know and how much you are willing to let them know.

I am not sure... But wouldn't that apply to the status picture shown as well? People can know if you are invisible, on-line or off-line.

I am just trying to make this forums better... Sorry to all of those who were starting to like the new toy (I was starting to like it as well )

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback

The feedback is welcome. Over the next week or so I expect we will be tweaking and fixing things. This was a huge, huge change -- more than the standard 'upgrade'. While not all the changes are the best, I think overall this version give us a lot more to work with.

I think some of the new stuff outweigh the bad. For example, check out the User CP and look at the different editors for posting. WYSIWYG is now an option. I also like that you can now highlight and click a formatting option and have the hightlighted text formatted rather than the formatting going to the bottom of the post. There are lots of little things like these that I think you'll find better than before.

Once we work out the kinks of the upgrade, then I'll go to the next step, which will be to turn on one of the new features (reputations).

It appears that you are now required to allow cookies in order to post. It probably doesn't bother most people, however, I don't allow cookies to be stored on my PC. To post, I have to allow the cookies, and then go in and delete them later, which is annoying.

I like to use the Who's on-line feature aswell now and again. Its pretty useful cos I'll sometime just load it up to see who is on or if someone is repling to any of my threads before I log off and stay if they are. Also when I'm on it I see the titles of soem threads I might not have and end up giving some input where I wouldn't have known of the thread otherwise.

I agree though the people who have selected stealth mode should have the right not to appear on it, I think on the last version they should up as Guests so you still saw what people were doign but you didn't know who all of them were.

BTW Brad didn't used to be invisible that was Marty .

My input as far as the Attachment limit goes: Did you say the limit is 5MB (or just under anyway?) Cos I've just checked mine and I have 10.8MB used, is that cos I'm a mod? Anyhow I was going to say before I said that (Thinking I'd only used 2.5MB) that for people who have been here a long time, e.g I registered back in 2000, would have already used up alot. And I see my self as I haven't posted alot considering how long I've been here there was a lengthy gap which I wasn't posting at all.

So far, I like most of the changes...except the pastel colors, but that's just me.

The loss of vbCode scared me for a moment, but I guess that will be fixed. I don't see anything that I won't be able to re-learn pretty quickly.

I really like the new version more thann I thought I would! I especially like the ability to close or expand the top level forums to just the ones I want. It make s the page shorter and it remembers your view settings when you return.

One thing that is bugging me is when you haven't viewed a thread, it will show a tooltip for it until you vierw the thread. Is there a way to turn this off?

Question Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback

Another issue is when you do an advanced search by exact username it doesnt find anything from before the upgrade.
Is this because the indexing may not be completed yet or is it a bug?

Kinda Strange if I search for my username I get 500 results? I've not posted 500 times since the upgrade yet I've posted more than that.....I seem to remember that vB3 puts a limit on how far back the searches will go, even if you tell it to search everything.

I got a script error, but I cant re-generate it. I was trying to add color from the dropdown list and this poped up and the color dropdown no longer functioned off of the mouse click.

I tried to edit my signature to change the Edit icon and it tells me that my signature can be at most 300 characters long. As a matter of fact when I delete part of my current signature it gives the same error.

Yes its a forum limit. Can it be changed to more than 300? I needed to fix mine and I lost half my sig.
It wasn't handling the vbcode tags and some javascript spacers -

Also, when you have links in your sig, the entire link path is counted as characters too.

I found trhe setting for the length and it was set at 300. Since it obviously used to be larger (mine was about 2600 characters in length) I changed it to 3000. I will discuss this with Brad.

I think the issue is more how much space the signature consumes, rather than the number of characters.

I agree. I just tightened mine up. Isn't there a setting for size? I thought I saw something at CodeGuru?

Re: Forum Upgrade Feedback

1) New forum is missing "Ability to obtain a Print version" .
2) I personally do NOT like the text colored blue. I find it VERY hard to read.
3) I personally do NOT like the separate box color for quotes and code.
Makes reading more difficult.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the administrators for all your efforts in regards to maintaining the forum.

#1. At the top of the thread there is "Thread Tools" menu. In it there is
menu item "Show Printable Version". Is this what you were refering to?

Link colour is too bright. Make it darker please, like the old ones.
