i bought it because my friend said it was soooo cool
i played it for 3 days and got really bored
it was 50 bucks for the game and first month, then its between 12 and 15 a month to play depending on how long you commit for
I wont renew past the free month, and I probably wont even play it again this month, HL2 and CS:Source just provide me with too much fun, and they are easy to play whenever I have a little free time, versus a game like WOW where you need to dedicate DAYS, MONTHS, YEARS to play this game to accomplish the goals... each time you think you are getting somewhere... there are a million other things to do
maybe I am just growing out of the RPG type games, but I guess I just now prefer to live a real life instead of a pretend one?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Yes, people have different opinions and game types they like, hehe.
I'm a D2 (diablo 2) player, but I love all types of games (you mentioned CS ). It's really fun. I don't understand how you got bored, because I've been playing it for long periods of time.
The quests keep you busy, well not like to make you not bored, but it keeps you from going "when am I going to level again?". Group parties are cool, sharing different types of loots. The professions are cool. The abilities: there are TONS. I havn't even played with many abilities, and I am still having much fun playing around with the few abilities I have. Talents are another way to make you TOTALLY different than other players of the same class. In D2, yes there are several different ways you could go to be different, but there was basically 3 ways for each class. In WoW, there are TONS of different ways to be different. I havn't got to experience with guilds, yet.
The downsides, which don't contain much, is basically with the server. A lot of lag occurs only when you're in places that a lot of people are in. I havn't gotten any lag since level 4, when I was in the town that everyone started it, so... Although, they (Blizzard) are constantly adding servers and trying to fix the lag. Obviously, with an MMORPG, it is hard and I'm sure other MMORPGs have lag too. (correct me if I am wrong)
If you have the game and want to play with me, go on Khadgar (too bad Blizzard doesn't have a "transfer server" button.) if you happen to be playing here and message me via "Angrek". (without "'s...)
Great game...
Any questions about game or whatever...

I played for a week in the open beta. I won't be buying it because the university router makes the lag worse than usual.
But it looked to me like it was generally in this formula:
Quests: Kill (monster) and get (Item)
Some of the 'different' quests were obviously designed to introduce you to things, which is good and bad. Like delivering a message with the wyvern transport system...
Also, there is a lot of travel time (I find) where you're just running towards your goal for 2 minutes.
However, when the game wasn't very laggy, I did enjoy myself. Blizzard obvisouly put a lot of work into this game and I bet it's above par compared to other MMORPGs.
Don't pay attention to this signature, it's contradictory.

that was another thing i felt was pretty lame, you cant transfer your character from server to server... even if there was a max limit of how many times you can transfer a character
the server I joined initially now has a wait queue on average of 1 to 2 hours to get in... so it would be wait in line, or start a character all over again...
obviously this game does appeal to a lot of people based on how many are playing it.. I just wanted to give my point of view because its not a game for everyone

i am a huge Diablo II player and am contemplating getting WOW (even though the monthly fee is putting me off slightly).
But I realy want to know how it compares to D2 - I heard that it doesn't have a trade system - which seems a bit odd to me. Also most D2 time is spent leveling the character and spending far too much time searching for godly items - is it the same in WOW?
One thing I love about D2 is the fantastically intuitive user interface - I tried to play Neverwinter Nights but found the totally 3d interface too complex - how does WOW compare?

I liked the interface.
There is a trade system.

<-- Level 18 Night Elf Warrior
Im enjoying the heck out of it. Of course I like MMO's.
Yes it has a trade system. Has an Auction system as well.
Its alot like D2 in the sense that equipment is everything so you are always on the lookout for uber equipment.
The combat is not like D2(click fest). It basically click to attack and it autoattacks from there. But that doesnt mean its easy. You still need to use other skills to win the fight.
Tradeskills are interesting ways to make money and equip yourself and friends as well. I took Herbalism and Alchemy and have been dishin out potions to my friends. Eventually I will start selling them in auctions houses.
Something I found interesting and had alot of fun with was Alliance versus Horde raids. Even though I am not on a PvP server, the night before last we had a group of 20+ horde characters start attacking NPC's in Ashenvale. Most every Night elf near there went there to fight them back. It was awesome seeing 50 people on screen duking it out(a bit laggy though). We eventually beat the horde back after about 30 minutes.
Looking forward to some high level content like the Onyxia Dragon raid in the future.

Mmm....Not sure but I have been putting in about 3 to 4 hours a day since Saturday on my current character. Had to start over again on Saturday as my first character was on Khadgar which was shut down for several days and didnt want to keep waiting on that server to come back, so moved to Zhul'jin.
I could be higher level possibly, but been spending alot of time exploring and picking herbs for Alchemy.

just asking because I know there is some where in the game you can see how long you have been logged into the server total.. my buddy is level 18 or somewhere around there after 4 days of the games release.. and he had over 24 hours logged... that was 1 ENTIRE DAY OUT OF 4!!!!

You can check that in game in WoW as well. Im at work though, so cant check. But about 24 hours total is what I have spent in game over 5 days.
I know people who have spent huge amounts of time in game. But of course they dont have jobs, so all they do is play WoW. The probably play 10-12 hours a day.

Which one? There have already been multiple Star Wars fps games out for a while.

HL2 is sweet... if your PC can handle it I suggest getting it.. its like 60 bucks (silver package I think its called) and you get HL2, CS:Source, DOD:Source, HL1 ported to the source engine, and just yesterday they released HL2 deathmatch...
I bought doom3 but it sucked... other than sweet looking graphics, the game was pretty lame, and most of it is in the dark..
regarding the server wait in WoW, in Blizzards defense, they did state they will add more capacity to servers that have long waits, but bottom line is its stupid to not be able to transfer your characters around.. it means if you come across any friend that gets the game or has the game.. you can NEVER Play with them in game unless they happen have picked the same server out of all the ones they have running, or start your character over again

My server has NEVER had ANY wait... Khadgar. Yeah I did experience the "days down" for reasons I guess, but I only experienced like 3 hours because I was gone for Thanskgiving.
Yeah, there is a little, or shall I say fairly large amounts of time that you do, but that is only for quests. There are monsters everywhere, and they keep respawning, so you can always can monsters on the way.
Also most D2 time is spent leveling the character and spending far too much time searching for godly items - is it the same in WOW?

I suppose, although not sure, but yes, you pretty much level up and are on the lookout for awesome items. However, there are TONS more quests, as you are aware of, which "keep you busy" so you will ALWAYS be doing quests. (or?)
The user interface is quite good... It is very similar to D2, except you have one long bar having abilities/spell hotkeys numbered 0-9. Obviously, in D2 you just had 2 sides, but you could use them with the hotkey. I think, but again not sure, that all the passive spells/abilities are always on, whether or not you have them in your bar.
