hp pavilion 7850 WOES! Keeps rebooting
MY friend's HP upon starting it shows the HP Invent screen and then goes to the screen that gives the different options to start in Safe Mode or normal mode. No matter which selection you choose it reboots, shows the HP Invent screen and then returns back to that screen again.
Before all this starting happening, I upgraded their OS from Win ME to Xp Home.
What is going on?
Thanks

NTLDR missing?
Just a thought ...
my daughter's XP-upgraded HP PC started doing a similar thing yesterday, but it was complaining about "NTLDR is missing".
If that error is appearing at all do a Google search and you'll find the solution, basically, copy the file from another system.
Good luck, DaveBo

if you can't get into safe mode, then try to re-install, with a format.

i don't know what to suggest. did you check on the web to see if xp could be used with the machine? maybe the installation had problems, you could always try again.

It sounds like one of 2 things:
1) Something might well have gotten screwed up in the install - a missing file perhaps preventing windows from going any further.
2) A hardware conflict or fault.
I'd take any un-neccessary hardware out from the PC - just leave in 1 memory module, processor & heatsink, keyboard, mouse, monitor, hard drive & graphics card. If this boots into windows, add the other hardware 1 part at a time to find your faulty one.
If not, then I'd do a complete FDisk, Format & re-install to wipe the drive. I've never heard or seen a decent, upgrade before with 2 windows operating systems & ALWAYS do a clean install.
