French Snipers gunning down civilians in the Ivory Coast.
Here's the link to the videos
Seems odd that the slaughtering of civilians by a European nation gets no press.

So now the French are killing innocent civilians in the Ivory Coast with troops they deployed without UN approval in a sovereign nation? In light of their stance with the recent situation with Iraq I think the height of hypocrisy comes to mind. As for why its not getting any press? My only guess is we only like to knock off those who are on top, had this been the US it would have made every paper across the globe. I can see the headlines now, "Evil Imperialistic US troops assassinating innocent civilians in the Ivory Coast!” and people marching in the streets chanting “No Blood for Cocoa”!

Africa is seen as the mess created by European and American actions for the last few centuries. Each country has some colonial ties, and the country that did the damage is still expected to clean things up. Fact of life.

You support the pre-emptive depolyment of troops without UN approval in a sovereign nation.
So one must assume that your problem isn't with the deployment, nor even the murder of innocent civilians. Rather one has to conclude that you only have a problem with the level of press coverage.

Yeah its supported by the UN Security Council, the EU, and the US. But doesn't this seem like Imperialism at its worst? France supporting a corrupt government then trying to reassert control over a former colony when the people want something different. The same people up in arms over the Iraq situation should be equally outraged here.

I suspect they are equally outraged.
The only difference here is that there is no-one hanging around trying to purport that this is the morally 'right' thing to be doing . . .

As the original post bemoaned there is not much press coverage of the situation but as I understand it, it goes something like this:
The Ivory Coast was doing well, a model for the rest of Africa.
A civil war erupted (don't know why).
France went in to restore peace, and did so.
The U.N. came on board.
An air force jet bombed the French killing ten including an American.
The French responded by wiping out the entire air force.
Anti-foreigner riots ensued.
Resulting in civilians getting shot.
Now if this is accurate the air force jets would be government ones, so they are not really supporting them are they? and I don't think they are trying to gain control over the country again. but the true objectives of countries are hard to discern; does the Ivory Coast have oil?

There once was a time when they did a bit better than that. As for now: Nobody copies the French, and the French copy nobody.
