Password retrieving
Anyone know if there's a kind of hacking way to retrieve a password in Windows 2000 ? I just installed a new PC, I checked the checkbox to enabled the logon window, but I didn't memorized the password. I tried almost all account on this computer with a lot of different password and it don't works. Is there a way to retrieve it in DOS before starting Windows ?

I did the same type thing in XP, but this program works in 2000 as well. It solved the problem of lost Admin password.
DreamPack
It was suggested here.

can you get into safe mode, with the Administrator account? You had to create a password when you installed Windows. You can change passwords for any account once you do that.

For Future Info:
you can use LM-Hash Replacement for a quick fix...
or boot into a live version of linux, copy the sam files, and crack them on another machine via l0pht, or some other password cracker

Here is a Linux utility that works well... you can't retrieve passwords I don't think, but you can remove them without copying the .sam files. It also edits the Registry, too.
Search Google for "offline registry password" - first hit, or:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
I got into a computer that no one knew the password for once, it is really slick...
- Visual Basic 6.0
- Windows XP Home

DreamPack replaced my Administrator password that I lost. I used an Administrative account to load it, first. When someone logs on, you can pop up a window that provides options of things to be done.
