How stupid are those marines? If you are going to shoot someone you are not supposed to, then it makes sense to blow away any reporters in the immediate vicinity too.

Under the marines own rules they're not supposed to kill them. Secondly this is not the only incident, on arab stations they are showing footage of three other incidents of the same nature, why these aren't being shown in the west I can't say.
These actions won't defeat the insurgants, instead it will recruit hundreds more.
There have also been reports of mass prisoner executions. Injured fighters being placed infront of tanks to be crushed.
While these stories are coming from refugees and are not yet confirmed, in a few months they might well be. Remeber Abu Graib, reports of torture came out months in advance of the pictures.

I say that's taurine excreta.
I'll agree that there are no news reports on it, but where did you hear about these reports from?

It was on Irish National Radio in an interview with an Iraqi freelance reporter.
While there is no evidence that any of this is happening except from refugees, isn't this how most things start.
1. rumour.
2. denial.
3. proof.

Fair enough. Just like any other war then, I guess.
By the way, that second line:
Injured fighters being placed infront of tanks to be crushed.
Reminds me of a movie which showed a scene very similar to this. The movie was about a tank full of American soldiers making its way through Afghanistan, with one crazy captain. The captain left out one of the soldiers to die, but he managed to get asylum with a tribe, and later, he helped destroy that tank.
Anyone know the name of this movie?

Ah, yes, that's the one. The Beast of War.

NOOOOOOOooooooooooo, say it's not true. I thought Top Gun was authentic.
Maybe the US planes are really MIGs and the government have been covering it up because Tom Cruise payed them.

The marines don't have rules in this scenario. Maybe you should watch more footage coming out of Iraq. The marine shot the guy because he was in the insurgent stronghold they just attacked minutes earlier.
And you have probably also heard the insurgents will booby trap dead bodies and leave a wounded dying insurgent to fire the trap when the Americans enter.
This is savage warfare. I would propose that insurgent was lucky to have been shot and not taken back for questioning. You attempt to abide Geneva conventions when the enemy does not. No military in the world would risk the lifes of their own soldiers against enemy that does not play by the rules.
Yes, you have point, it may recruit more insurgents... but i suspect that's all part of the military's plan. Put out a bee's nest and see what wasps come to destroy it. In this manner, they attract the insurgents to them which is better than being blindly attacked on the open road.
And no, the Americans will not be compensating the wounded insurgent.

You might be right about there being no rules to deail with this, but from listening to reports about what might happen to the soldier legally as a result of this, I was led to believe that a soldier is not "supposed" to kill someone who is not a threat. However this probably has a very broad definition.
What gets me is the timeline.
1. Marines shot at from mosque
2. Marines enter mosque kill ten injury rest
3. Give medical aid to injured and leave
4. Next day another group enter mosque with camera crew and the rest is history.
I just don't get point three either your going to kill'em all or your not. Why leave them when they might has some intel that you could use.

Well I don't understand the situation either, and its difficult to be in the shoes of the marines or the insurgents. But as we can see from contrasting western and mid-eastern media reports, right or wrong - its truly in the mind of the beholder.
Insurgent is a broad term for someone that is fighting for control over the country. There are many factions that want control and not because they want a democracy. There are other insurgents who are simply of the ideology of Al Queda and do not care what happens to Iraq, but simply see Americans in the mid east as an attack against Islam and the Arab world.
So some insurgents may belong there, others are simply blood thirsty or seek to be part of some battle regardless of its cause.

Ok. Here's the thing. Do not listen to the liberal biased media, which includes CNN, CBS (especially), NBC, and ABC. What they are NOT telling you is that the insurgents are now using tactics such as suicide bombing and placing bombs on dead insurgents to kill American soldiers. If any enemy posed a threat, they have every right to shoot that enemy in order to save lives.
And those insurgants for those who are confused are the terrorists from Iraq as well as other countries. They do not like the fact that Iraq is now under a democracy and free. And this freedom will spread among the other Middle Eastern countries as well. So they are trying to take over Iraq themselves. There's no way they'll win.

Iraq is not a democracy, and it is not free.
Jacob you seem to know a lot about these Iraqi fighters, where they're from and what they're about. You slam the liberal media, but where do you get your information from. It sounds like Government spin.

Re: Absolute Bull crap!
One other thing is that bit about what the liberal media is not telling me? The very liberal media that I have encountered all mention those things. I thought it was the conservative media that didn't show those things because they didn't want to show any negative items on Iraq?
I don't watch TV, so my media is the web, the radio, or newspapers and magazines, which might do a better job.
My usual boring signature: Nothing
