    Resource Kit Components Good ?

I wonder how many people are using the free components that come with the VB resurce Kit.
    Are they good ?
is it advisable to use them with professional applications ?

I am not sure with the licencing of Component one it seems that the update is date sesitive so I am not sure whether I should install these components now, that is after Q3 2003.

yeah, i don't know mannn... I looked at that UltraTree thing, it looks pretty much like the normal treeview. ain't much difference. The samples didn't even have pretty pictures But I would n0t say the extra free controls are useless though. They might help out here and there.

TonySaliba, as for the update, anything you install/"upgrade" after the date of the original license (eg. a 2004 upgrade over a 2003 license) will transform your control licenses into "trial" ones. So I have read.

Thanks Pirate. I have downloaded the Resource Kit long time ago. Altough, as always, I respect your opinion I do not think that the Resurce Kit is all Bull****, there are a few things, especially in the samples that are very good for beginers, sometimes also some bugs to sort out.

I have seen some posts lately referring to the components that come free with the resource kit. These are from SAX (rs232 comms), Dundas Charting and Component One. Dundas charting looks impresive but I do not know how it performs in real life while as regards Component One and SAX I did not try them.

My main concerns are whether one should use these controls and whether they perform well in real life. Another serious concern is if VS2004 comes out do we have buy these controls to upgrade our projects to VS2004, ie will they still be compatible.

    Free and worth every penny

    but not a penny more.

has anyone had any good experiences with this?
I just went through the download and install on a Win2000 system and the resource kit interface is brain dead.
It runs some cassini personal web server then when I try to open different pages I get "Server error ... " "Viewstate is invalid ..."

Whenever I deal with MS products I feel like I'm undergoing some sort of bootcamp harrassment training.

VBForums is one place, but for the really important stuff ... here's a clue 1Tim3:15

HORRENDOUS interface. Worst I've seen in many years.

However, if you bypass that, you are getting a FREE copy of the ComponentOne stuff (among others). How anyone could call TrueDBGrid bull**** is beyond me. Their stuff is great!
