Problem With Installation While Having Oracle As The Back-end

    DETAILS :

    SOFTWARE : VB 6.0

    OPERATING SYSTEM : WINDOWS XP

    BACK-END DATABASE : ORACLE 8.0

My computer system also has WINDOWS ME. ORACLE 8.0 and VB 6.0 are installed in WINDOWS XP only.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION :

I made a DATABASE project in VISUAL BASIC 6.0 having ORACLE 8.0 as the back-end database system.

The project got compiled successfuly. I went on to create a PACKAGE using the Package & Deployment Wizard [ PDW ].

The Creation of Package was successful.

I installed it on WINDOWS XP and it was a success, when the same got installed on WINDOWS ME, an error message pops up and says

"Adodc1[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name not found, no default drive specified".

My project does not start after I respond to this message.

    PLEASE NOTE :

A similair databse system with MS-ACCESS 7.0 as the Back-end works well on both operating systems.

I request the Forum to Tell me a way to clear it.

    I have added ,

AUTOMATIC OS UPDATER [ A software from INNO SETUP] :

This software comprises of DCOM and MDAC components which are necessary to be updated in different operating systems.

    Please click this LINK
to find more about AUTOMATIC OS UPDATER.

    PLEASE NOTE :

    1. My project uses an ADO Data Control to connect ORACLE 8.0 With VB 6.0.

    2. I have already installed VB Service Pack 6.0.

    Thanking You,

    YADAV

Um... does the Win ME have the latest MDACs installed?

Sounds like its missing the driver for oracle on Win ME.

    Vince,

    REPLY TO QUESTION 1:

The Drivers are installed in WINDOWS ME. The drivers name is MSORCL32.DLL, it is located in the folder WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.

I even tried addding this DLL to my SETUP PACKAGE.

    REPLY TO SUGGESTION 1:

The Automatic OS Updater Software consists of the MDAC components necessary for every OS.

It checks the version of WINDOWS OS and updates MDAC and DCOM components accordingly.

I have also added MDAC 2.8 to the SETUP PACKAGE.

I thank you sincerely and I appreciate the concern for having the patience to reply to my last message.

    Thanking you

    YADAV
