The picture isn't missing
Old old Bug with &)'s.
This has always been a problem, but never fixed for some reason.
Whenever &) is typed, it would show a winking smiley with an ampersand in front. I'm guessing this is due to & being & and when combined it becomes &).
Remember, if someone's post was not helpful, you can always rate their post negatively  .

Check the Disable Smilies in This Post checkbox under the Your Reply window.

Well I know that, or else I wouldn't haven been able to easily post the first post .
But newbies don't know that, and many people wouldn't bother, so it makes the code broken when you copy and paste.
Remember, if someone's post was not helpful, you can always rate their post negatively  .

i doubt the vB team thought of this when they were making it 
anyway this one would probably require source tampering and as you know VBF guys refuse to change the forum source

Isn't there just a listing of smilies in the settings one can change if he wants, much like in phpBB? You can make any word a smilie in phpBB if you want to... and remove/edit the old ones. I guess this feature shouldn't be out of question in vBulletin?
