DVD Writer won't accept blank DVDs

I have an LG multiformat DVD writer (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-4082B). However, whenever I try to burn a DVD, it will not accept the blank DVD. I insert the disc and close the tray, and the indicator light will flash for a few seconds, stop, start flashing again and then spit the disc out. This only happens with currently blank discs. I have tried several DVDs that I burned with the drive before this started to happen, and it reads them fine. It also burns CDs fine, and reads DVD movies fine.

The discs I burned before this started to happen, and the current discs that the drive continues to spit back all come from the same spindle of DVDRs, and i've tried a few from random places within the spindle but the same problem keeps reoccurring every time.

I've updated to the latest firmware version, but the problem still keeps happening. I've tried using several ISO programs for burning the DVDs, as well as the bundled Nero 6.0, but still no luck. No matter what I do, the drive still spits back blank DVDs.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem?

    Thanks in advance,
    - Adam Lundrigan

take your email address out of your posts, and put it in your profile. the threads are scanned by bots, and you will end up with unwanted spam that use the cached web info.

are the DVD's the correct type for your drive? there are +, and -, as well as many other things. best to check the manual. It should work with the DVD that its designed to.

    thanks for the tip

Yes, the DVDs are the right format. I've used those blank discs before with this burner, its just very recently that they haven't been working.

I've had the same problem. I was able to burn dvd's before and then all of a sudden it just stoped working. Still haven't figured this out though, and it's really pissing me off.

ALundrigan - I found something here, updated in June

    here

post your Nero log for a quick look-see.

There is also an ASPI update that may help.

I tried the firmware upgrade you gave me (206) and it worked! There must be a problem with 207, since I tried that one first and it didn't work.

However, my burner is an 8X burner, but the fasted Nero or Easy CD Creator will allow me to burn at is 4X. Why?

Thanks for your help, its greatly appreciated,

I used to get errors at a faster speed, and slowed it down. Not sure of the solution, but it never bothered me too much.
