    Talking

There was a convention of the main beer manufacturers of the world. In the first coffe break, the British representative asked the bartender "please, a Carlsberg ". Then there came de Netherlander: "a Heineken". And so on, the Brazilian "please, a Brahma", the Mexican "a Corona", the man from USA "a Bud". Finally, it came the turn for the chairman of Quilmes (Argentine beer): "please, a Coca Cola". His colleagues got amazed, and stared him with great surprise, so he said: "Ah, no, boys, you don´t drink beer, me neither!"

Well there's Boddingtons and Tetleys, and a load of others no doubt. Some good small breweries dotted around here and there too.

    How many kinds of beer?

Beer is not my thing. About 100 years ago I drank some as a member of a relay team. My buddy taught me how to pour liquid down my throat without swallowing. He, two others, and I easily won every race we ever entered.

For quite a few years, my drinking has consisted of sharing a bottle of wine while eating out with my girl friend once or twice a week. For many years I went to piano & singles bars and had two strong drinks or 3-4 glasses of wine for the evening.

Recently I was astonished when somebody told me that there were as many different types (not brands) of beer as there are types of wine.

Is that true? Does anybody have an accurate estimate of the number?

By the way, I was out to dinner recently with a German tourist who decided to try some brand of American Light beer. He said "There are laws in Germany prohibiting the selling of watered down beer like this."
