    Telnetting to IRC

ok, my university has blocked port 6667 (used to IRC). but I can use a remote PC and from there I can use port 6667. Since no IRC client is installed, I have to use telnet. Does anyone know how to use telnet to use IRC? I have googled for articles, but I can't find anything that has helped. I usualyl get a "you have not registered" error. Basically I need to be able to choose my nick, and:
    /msg nickserv identify password
    and:
    /join #channel
    and of course talk.

Does anyone know how, or can you direct me to a good article?
