    Windows XP Problems

Alright well my normal measures: Format C:\ won't work this time. They need to keep their stuff, anyway, here is the problem.

They boot into anyones name and the loading user settings crap comes up and then just kicks them back out to logon screen, seeing as I have no physical access to the machine I am just wondering if any of you have experienced such an error and what you did to rectify it.

My immediate thought to fix it was, seeing as its XP, to boot into safe mode and get a system restore point. Which I am having them try at this moment =)

try creating a new user in safe mode. i fixed a ME system by doing that tonite. it wouldn't load IE, just opened briefly then closed. Outlook worked, though. Now everything works fine.

I had a problem like that the other day.
    Although it was Win ME

You can probably try these 2 fix's anyway.

See what happened I am not sure...But I turned my comp off like normal, came back a few hours later, booted and it said
"Cannot acsess registry, there is a corruption."
    "Try SCANREG /FIX"

The system would halt, so I booted safe-mode, restarted, and it loaded up fine..except my Windows was messed. It was obviouse a registry corruption, no setting was saved, it kept trying to reinstall my-hardware, MSN thought it needed to be installed, all my shortcuts where messed...It was stupid.

So I booted a new user-name, and....things worked..But I wanted my old name back, so I loaded up my old name and tried a system restore, it kept running into an error. So then I ran
SCANREG /FIX in Dos while in windows under than bad-username.

    It fixed everything.

    Try this:
    SCANREG /FIX
Do a system restore in safemode

this was ME with only the default user account. everything moved over, even though I just said to move the program files.
even My Documents was still full! I was glad...

program files weren't, which is a good thing, as the kids had been the ones to hose things in the first place. now, the have to get mom or dad to start their program, and they aren't as anxious to ctrl-alt-del, which would hang the system, then cold boot it. my PIII/233 running W2K Workstation was faster doing things as their AMD 766mhz running W98.

I have had that problem about 5 times now. And I get so pissed. I usually log in to advanced settings (when booting up) go to safe mode using console. When it logs in, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and start a new process of notepad ( or some other program) which will bring up the desktop. Save your files while you can and then REFORMAT~

After that is all done. If you haven't pirated it, , send MS a email or get support from them~ I'd like to see the solution without reformatting it. *knock on wood*
