    GeForce2 64MB Graphics Card

I recently installed the above card. I noticed two things I hope someone can explain.

    OS: Win98

    1. The card appeared to eat almost all available memory to the point I could not compile a VB program I can normally compile easily. Is this common for AGP cards of this type???

Note: Installing my original PCI video card reclaimed this memory so I'm fairly sure the AGP video card is the issue.

    2. I also noticed under Win98, Control Panel, Display, that the card seemed to think I had two monitors installed even though there was ONLY one. It recognized my Dell monitor, but also thought there was an Unknown monitor on the same card.

Note: Installing my original PCI video card shows only one monitor listed in Control Panel.

    Thanks
    David

Not sure about the memory thing but for the two Monitors it will be that the card supports two monitors, the fact you only have one plugged in just means the second one should remain saying unkown.

BTW I moved the thread to the General PC Section as it will be better suited here .

    Thanks for the response.

That would be obvious if the card has two 15 pin connectors.
    It only has ONE.

    Any other ideas.

Even an S-Video or RCA vidieo output would count as an extra monitor. My card on my other PC comes up as two monitors are available but it has one normal and one S-Video connector .

This card just comes with ONLY one 15 pin connector. Nothing else.

My reaction is you may have the wrong drivers installed.

    Thanks for responding Dave.

Used NVidia's driver disk, but checked last evening and they had a new driver posted for Sept 2004.

Tried to download but IE came back about halfway through download and said couldn't download driver which I find wierd -- unless somehow NVidia is checking to see if card is installed (was using PCI video card because of problems). Plan to try again today.

Still checking on AGP and memory as read a comment on the web about AGP using some of your motherboard memory.

Will post this thread if driver the issue or something else.

the video card will use system memory if all its on board memory has been used up

Did your older one have more memory though? I just assumed you would have "upgraded" and it was more?

Thanks for both responses. Still playing with issue.

My PCI card only has 4 MB memory while the GeForce2 has 64MB.

That's why I'm somewhat confused in that the PCI (while it may use some system memory ???) still leaves plenty to use VB and compile the program, while the GeForce2 sucks up all the system memory it can get, so the compile fails.

Have watched both using system monitor.

I know it's a longshot, but check the AGP Aperture size and reduce it if necessary in the BIOS. And best to get the latest drivers too.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)
