router problem? multiplayer games not working
Hi, my grandfather switched got himself adsl instead of cables for the internet and also it now has a router so two computers are connected to the internet. Now, i have downloaded somthing like 5 multiplayer games and there seems to be a problem because for some reason the computer simply can't connect to the games' servers. He has windows XP home adition on the computer I checked this and i'll also mention that before the switch was made, one of the multiplayer games (I haven't downloaded the others by that time) was working.
Sorry for making this so long.
Does anyone know how this could be fixed?

Hello,
Well usually routers stop you from making games, not preventing you from joining servers. Basically, you find out what port the gams uses, which usually you can change. You goto your router's web-based configuration utility, which is usually http://192.168.1.1. You go to Applications and Gaming. Type in a title if you want, the port start and end (e.g. 6112 - 6112), The protocol (if you don't know, do both), the LAN IP address of the computer, and check Enable.
This is based on a Linksys router, but most routers have fairly the same idea.
Hope this helps,
Alacritous

It may be under Port Forwarding, or the router may not allow it, whatsoever.

If you don't require the routing, use it as a modem by switching to bridge mode. You will then require a firewall on the computer, but it will allow you to play your games the easiest way.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

If you wanna try my method, it is different for different products. Typically, look for a setting that sets the connection method, should say something like PPPoE or PPPoA or someting, change it to bridged or something similar. Then in Windows, create a new connection, select Broadband as your connection then dial it and it should connect you to the internet.
