HardDrive Problem
Okay I'm using Windows ME.
I'm great with computers, but never experienced this before.
My HD, fairly old...been moved around a bunch...ran verticle for awhile...think some dust maybe got loose.
Anyway it is installed orientated properly now, and its state seems to keep getting worse. Within Windows I cannot move files, delete files from this drive..
Move files, the file status gets to complete, but the dialog showing the move status never closes...The file does copy to the other location but is stuck on the bad drive.
Delete files, windows just gets stuck, and you can hear the drive thinking hard, really hard but it doesn't do anything.
Files of Kazaa seems to finish and disappear..I watch them appear and disappear without me doing a thing...I think that is un-related possibly my virus scanner.

Ok. wait...your great with computers....but your using windows me....i dont understand.....thats probably your real problem here, i mean............at least switch back to win98 please....and it doesnt matter if your hdd is "vertical" or horizontal, that just doesnt make sense....and its phyisically impossible to get dust on the actuall hard disk...but I mean, unless you thought your were like "leet" or something and decided to take off the face plate of the hdd..then its not a dust problem..........I dont think its the hdd....try formatting....and then installing win98...or me if you HAVE to...

Not the series of replys I was looking for.
I do not have a Win98 copy anymore, lost it...all I could find was Win ME
I agree 100% with all ya`all.
I am great with computers, I fix em, program them...I do have any money and my family gives me **** when it comes to the subject of computers...So its all on me and WinME is all I could get for free.
Now, the HD is broken I swear, it clanks now and then, freezes on reads...
And running a HD at any angle other than 90 or 180 will cause nasty problems in the future of that HD...I know that for sure.
I guess I posted this in the wrong place.

Halsafar,
You're sure this HD never falls, or been hit when in use ?
If so, then I think you need to make a backup of your data, and put this data on another HD. So send your HD to an bureau that restores HD. I know that in Brazil and USA has some...

I am not sure of the past of this HD.
It is only a 1.5GB HD, it is old very old, at least 1992 I think, I got it installed tightly away so I don't wanna take it out to check.
All it pretty much is used for is downloads or any sort...apps, music..etc...just so I don't clutter up or corrupt a good drive.

Well,
I have a HD with the same size... It falls, about 5cm (not working), after this, I had and still having problems such yours...
A lot of "Plecs", "Reading/Writing Errors", "Lost Files", and so on...
I think that HD is the problem. (I think that WinME is a problem too, but in your situation, the 2nd one )
For your security, I think it's better you change your HD or, Format it for the very bottom, starting at least form "FDISK".
It's what I did with mine... (Works so so, but... works)
I Hope it can help you...
