DW2 said to me the other day something about she was gonna be getting a computer made for her by someone.....she then told me what it was gonna be (no technical details ) and then described the computer itself as the modem......I didn't really get what she meant at first then asking a few questions she thought what I would call the box/PC was called the modem......she still doesn't believe me . I found out that its cos someone fixed a computer a while back for her and must have said they were fixing the modem or something and she saw them playing around in the box and has from then on believed the box part is called a modem.

The thing was I kinda failed at telling her the modem is the internet bit because I couldn't tell her what the box part is called, I've never really called it out but the Case/Box/CPU/Computer.

That modem bit is a common thing. The other mistake that is commonly made is to call that thing the hard drive. I suppose that might date back to the days when a hard drive was a separate box, and the bulk of the computer was part of the monitor. I can only remember that on early PC XT's, and I might even be wrong about that...maybe early Mac's or something like that.

I call it the computer

It is strange that most things reduce in size but pc's have expanded. Like when the Atari had the keyboard inbuild. Makes it easier to change but for some who wont ever change it, it really isnt neccasarry. Suppose that is what a games console is
