    Modem install problems

No matter what I do, I can't get my damn computer to recognize my modem. The strange thing is that I download the manufacturer's modem driver, but when I select the .inf file in the add modem window, it does not show any devices, like it's not a valid driver or something.

The modem model number is ami-2019 and it's a 56k v.90 modem. I have done many searches on the web for this modem and have tried several drivers without success.

Not sure if this is related, but I have a yellow question mark next to the "PCI Communications Controller" device. Does that need to be working first? My modem is in fact connected via a PCI slot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated before I lose even more hair.

Yes, find out the problem with the PCI Communications device and once you solve that, you may get your modem going again.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

    modem

Try another pci slot ,also look in device manager see if theres any conflics, the yellow mark is because theirs no drivers installed,
double check its the right drivers.

    good luck

It says "The drivers for this device are not installed" for the PCI Communications Controller.

However, I can't seem to find any drivers on the internet for this. I even went to the motherboard's manufacturer (MSI) web site, but they do not list any drivers for the PCI Communications Controller for this particular board, or any board for that matter.

So where in the world do I get a hold of this driver??

I'd say it used t work, so try reinstalling the driver automatically, see if Windows picks it up. Make sure you aren't in any diagnostic modes either i.e. used msconfig to do things etc.

start in safemode, and delete any modems that are there. if there is an onboard modem, diable it in bios, and make sure that the PCI slot is on.

I did already download and try that exact modem driver. However, it doesn't seem to work. When I go to add my modem, and then select "Have disk" and then click on the IntelH51.inf file, then then hit Okay, there are no options in the list of modems to select from and the Next button is not enabled. So it seems that there is a problem with this driver.

So, I decided to just use the built in generic 56K driver thats included in Windows. It seems to install properly, however, the "Query modem" fails, even though it says device is installed. I have verified through Hyperterminal that the modem is not working.

Again, I think the root problem is the "PCI Communications Controller". Every time I start up Windows, it tells me this new hardware is found. I go to install the driver, but it can't be found. So I guess the real question is, where can I get a hold of this "PCI Communications Controller" driver? I think once that is installed, I can use the PCI slot as the modem. And yes, I did try PCI slot 3, but same issue.

Are you sure you ain't running any diagnostic startups or something? I had a mate who had something similar happen to his computer, took ages to solve it and the hardware said the same thing yours said, by change, I went into msconfig, and it was in selective startup, set it to normal and the devices once again used their drivers.
