Life is a lemon and I want my devices back!
I Installed Windows XP SP2 and everything works fine except that some of the devices are not listed in device manager anymore, though they all work fine. I noticed that only the integrated devices are not listed, VGA, LAN, USB, even Via Bus Master IDE Controller. Local Area Connection has disappeard too. I reinstalled SP2, reinstalled Via 4-in-1, other drivers, and every other thing that I thought might be helpful, but no luck. MS newsgroups were of no help. Any idea?
Thanks!

Performed a Windows repair with original Windows XP without SP1. Still the same problem. I guess there is a registry entry responsible for this problem that is not affected by reparing windows.

Despite having NAV2004 with latest updates, plugging the computer to internet was enough to get infected with some worms and whatnot that neither Norton nor some other online virus scanners could get ride of it and I had to use eScan AntiVirus ToolKit. Also NAV started reporting spybot and some other worms, which never reported before . I put back SP2 and just living with that, I really dont have time to reinstall Windows and whole bunch of programs I have and tweak it, thats just a pain in the ass.

Tonight I decided to solve my problem and I did!
The registry key of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI was totally corrupt, I dont know what had caused that. I deleted the key and let the Windows rebuild it on next boot. Everything is back and working like a charm.
Here is how that key looked like:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-.]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./01]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./012]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&']
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'(]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI\$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-./0123$%&'()*+,-.]
....
And the list goes on like that.

safe mode would have shown duplicate devices that would have needed removal. you did the same thing.
oops, thought that i suggested that in this thread. it was a different one...
