what do you think about VB-World-Forums ?

I am a fan of the VB-World-Forums site, but
I think there are too many forums there. On
friday 12-1-00 I started a thread on the
database development forum, I did not
receive a reply. Today I started the same thread on
General VB questions, I had the first reply
whithin 30 minutes.

The reason is, in my opinion, that most members are
scanning the General VB questions forum only. I would
prefer something like a category combo for new threads,
rather than multiple forums like General VB, API, Database, etc..

What do you think guy's?

it also depends what people want to look at and whether they feel that they can help a database question...

I agree with both of you...I look only in VB and as per database questions,(some don't require a test, but some do) As a habit, one should check any code before posting. With a db question, sometimes it's too time consuming to re-create and check.

'View New Posts' is ok, if everybody uses it.

My point of view was that I wanted an answer for a db question, but there was nobody on the db-forum who had it.

Maybe vb-world should emphasize the 'View New Posts' link!

I check, all forums that pertain or set a interest in me. Which are General Questions, ChitChat and a occasional API.

1) API
2) ASP, VB Script, Internet and Network Development
3) COM and ActiveX
4) Forum Feedback
5) Chit Chat
6) C and C++
7) HTML, Javascript, Web and CGI
8) General VB Questions

I don't usually check out the other forums because I don't know about them, really. I see what your saying rfo. I answer stuff in other forums before VB, and when I get to VB, I see that the same question was asked. So what was the point of posting it twice? General VB Question is the most looked at. No one usually goes to anything else. So maybe it'd be better if we have 1 main forum and then the side forums (Chit Chat and Forum Feedback). Maybe this should be moved to Forum Feedback, not Chit Chat. Although, everyone has their own opinions, but you have a good point there rfo .

Yeah, I figured that. As I said though, everyone has their own opinions. My opinion sucks. It's good as is.

The problem if there is one with General Vb Questions is the amount of air time a question gets. A question could be ignored for a couple of hours because of an badly worded subject line and the next thing it's on page two and sure who cares about page two.

Not enough people search through old posts before posting questions either.

But I wouldn't change a thing. I love all you guys.

I know what you mean rfo, but the forums have to be split really or like people have said the general forum just gets crammed full of stuff. It's useful really, and people who know the answers or have an interest will generally browse the specialist forums they are interested in. Personally I'm usually in Chit Chat but after that I check C++ and Games & Graphics, then sometimes the Net forums and General.

I just posted a question in the Assembler forum yesterday, and I'm not really expecting anybody to reply because it's a bit of a strange question. If you want more people to see your message, don't post the message in more than one forum, just post links to your main thread in the correct forum and ask people to take a look.

I only check the Games and Graphics forum in general. If I have enough time left or nothing better to do I check the Chit Chat too.

I think this place is absolutely great.

I usually check:
1) C++
2) Chit Chat
3) New posts list
4) DB
5) General

Everything else usually gets ignored. Although I look at Forum Feedback every week or so.

Me personally, I love these forums.

I've posted in most of the forums, and, as long as I have used a reasonably engaging and coherant subject, I've found that most have been answered very promptly.

Alongside this, I've learnt loads about Visual Basic, Java, and the drinking habits of Southern Pansies!

My ICQ contact list has trebled in size, and I have made not a few friends.

Keep up the good work, keep the forums the way they are, and.....
