Web Design - Where do I start???
Ive been developing in vb & powerbuilderd for the past 5 years & also have a sound knowledge of SQL. I know very little of HTML & Web design. I would like to learn more about this but don’t know what the best start would be. I’ve heard about ASP,Java etc but need advise from programmers that "have been there" of where to start and what language to pursue.

If you've done vb/vba - have a look into Asp as its an easy step. For pro job etc prolly need Java/Php MySql.
I think there was a previous thread with a list of things if you wanna become a web developer. Might be worth a quick search (top) through the forums.

Yes.
You're outputs from php or asp will need to be formatted for html, so yes. Its pretty easy and you can make up websites on your home comp, tested on it too, before uploading (drop the html/htm files into ie or firefox).
Also once you've gotten html sorted, you may want to look at css for styling purposes. Over several pages its more easy to update the styles. Thats for the future.
