    Your hardware for developing [RESOLVED]

don't know if this is the right forum but what hardware is everyone using? I have 256 MB DDR ram, 1 gHz Duron, one 40 GB Harddrive split up so Visual Studio has it's own partition.

Im considering buying all new hardware and would like to get some ideas. As far as muscle, I'm thinking of 2GB DDR RAM minimum, and possibly getting a P4 even though i've been a loyal AMD user since 98.

    How is hardware relevant?

I've got a 120 GB HD, 2.6 GHz P4, 2 GB DDR RAM at work.

At home, I have 30 GB HD, 1.8 GHz and 256 MB DDR RAM.

And they both perform exactly the same.

    Hi.

    2.8 GHz Celeron
    512 MB DDR

I used to have a 1.2 GHz AMD with 384 MB SDRAM, and I could really feel the difference. That was with 2002.

The 2003 has been optimized a lot, so I'm not sure wether you'd actually feel much difference with that.
I have only tried 2003 on the 2.8 PC, so I have no idea how that would perform on the 1.2 PC.
I wish I could think of something witty to put in my sig...

    ...Currently using VS2013...

I think it's relevant cause the meatier your computer is, the less you have to worry about your system 'hanging' during development. like when I first started with .net, I tried using a OLD packard bell just to kick around with and it took SO long to start the ide and to start the debugging process. I've since been given a power factory from work (unfortunately, it has to STAY at work ) and i am less frustrated.

Also, I am having issues with the size of this project i have and was thinking maybe it was a hardware problem. It could go both ways actually.

I know back in the 'good ol days' hardware wasn't a big deal to use for a development machine cause everything ran at 8 or 16 bits and my Texas Instruments calculator i have now is more powerful than those machines. lol nowadays, i have a theory that if you write code, you should develop on no less than what your inteneded audience is required to have minimum. Gaming comes to mind. Just an opinion/ theory of mine. I'm relatively new to this career so I expect some veterans to tell different stories.

Dude, you're rich right? Unless....No not you. You would never do something as bad as that.

I wish. *sigh* I'm even shifting places tomorrow, because I can't afford the measly rent at this place.

This copy of VS.NET was purchased for me by the office, since they like me so much.
