    Totally Unrealated but interesting

Sorry about this Electroman, and other mods....
It pertains to my gaming, cuz its where all my games end up and are tested before i send out to people.

Alright my brother ran plain old Windows Disk CleanUp (the one you find in your C Drives Property window)...He is using XP, now if that isn't his first mistake, his second would be letting windows handle anything....
But anyway, I've never had a problem with DiskcleanUp on 98, or ME, or ever; Well this damn cleanup deleted everything, not folders tho just files...not weird files, just command ones (*.exe, *.ini, *.com, *.bat, *.sys, *.dll) and a bunch more, but it left ones like read.me, or pdf, self made extensions...It fragged it all!

Now deleting a file just tags the file on the drive as in-active, which means it no longer shows up anywhere and any new information wanting that space gets it...Which is how UnDelete works, even Un-Format.

I have avoided and always will avoid Xp so I don't know much of its features (other than network bridge I like), but Xp doesn't have an undelete, Xp has ****ty Dos or no Dos. All UnDelete programs I can find cost money or allow a 64kb max per file..lame

Any help? Any reference of this before?

I used to use Norton Utilitys and that used to have a undelete thing on but installing it would probably overwrtie most your files.

BTW the only way to delete files like that is if you select the option to delete all files that haven't been used for a long time but even then it goes to another window to make you check each one individually. He must have just selected all of them and not bothered to see they were needed files.

And I've never had any troubles with XP, I run it on both my PCs and they are fine. My older one probably needs a fresh format cos after about 3years its now starting to get really slow but don't all PCs .

BTW I'm moving this thread to the General PC Section cos it'll be more fitting there .

I have Norton Utilities for Windows 98/ME etc..i dunno if it XP ready because I have seen XP versions of it which I ignore...

I must say though, XP is not good. Without DOS it gets a little annoying trying to fix people's computers and those damn restore points are only good for 50% of error's....plus a restore point can cause programs installed since the restore point was made to no long work properly, or at least you may need to re-install...

Xp Service's connect you to microsoft, allows microsoft to connect to you for "helpful" purposes in-case your comp crashes...Stupid if you ask me.

How about the Ms_Blaster, or the fact that they are still using that pardon my language god damn registry! on an OS that is pretty much internet ready before you have even finished installing XP...although all other windows enjoys the easily mod-able registry file...bah, I really dislike Xp.

Almost every business in the world is using it now!
How can everyone trust microsoft so?
THE Xp Services should all be shut off!!!! But doing so causes error's.
I have no trust or faith for that operating system.

XP works fine as long as you are a sensible user. If you don't bother with rubish like crackz and programs that are from some dodgy bloke with a website that looks like a 2year old made it then you won't get any problems. I have Norton Internet Security & Norton Anti-virus (Both came with my motherboard) and they have blocked the odd virus in email and thats about it.

I though bad of XP but that was before I got it, as soon as I started to use it its nice to use, if you want to mess around with setting then it might get a bit fustrating and a few things are doe a little different but once you have it set up proper you shouldn't have any trouble. Ow and make sure your brother stays away from the Disk Cleanup from now on cause thats just asking for trouble if he don't know what he's doing .

Agreed, no more disk clean up...

Now, defend it lack of Dos?
Dos is your all mighty safe guard in case of system crash...

First off you can open up the Command Prompt from the Accessories menu on the Start Menu. But if you mean at start up then you can use the Boot disk to get DOS to appear . Also I think this has been the case for all after Win95 . WinME (So Win98 aswell) didn't have anymore DOS to my knowledge .

There is also a "safe mode with command prompt" in both 2k and xp.
