You have to check to see if both the batteries are of the same type. E.g Litium Ion. And you also have to check to see if it is the same Ampére on the input.

I didn't realise the battery type mattered, but then I've never tried with laptops!

My step-father was an expert on using AC adapters, and he made sure I knew the important bits...

    1) Volts & Amps output must be right (equivalent to the original).
    2) If it is a sensitive device, the supply must be regulated (I've blown a cheap CD player with un-regulated ).
    3) The connector must be the same size, and the same polarity (inside +, or outside +) as the original.

Ohhh......I forgot about the polarity......and an other thing. Think that all Laptops now days use Litium Ion batteries....like all cell phones now days.

And an other thing. Not sure about laptops, but for LCD screens your quarenty (SP?) is not worth **** if you change the adapter, becuase LCD screens are very sensitive too changes in the power. They have a very sensitive fuse in the adapter. And if you don't have that in the new adapter a power drop or the opposit (feel like I have some problems explaining the technical bit in English here..) the whole LCD screen will start to take take fire......trust me..it has been tested......oooops $3000
