Ive been using my graphics and stuff for weeks with no trouble and ive lately downloaded a few 3D grames, but am having problems running them. I used the DirectX diagnostic utility and it has reported a problem with the Direct3D draw or something (when i test it, it crashes just like with the games). Im currently using S3 Trio 3D running on Windows 98. I looked for drivers from S3 for this only to get old Win95 ones (they stopped making/supporting them since 1998).
Anyway i looked for support and help in the games, FAQ's etc to find little, if no help. So im hoping someone can help me here, new driver or something?
I have the this information related to it:
Name:
S3 Inc. Trio 3D V2.62.06
Manafacturer:
S3
Chip Type:
Trio 3D Rev
Total Memory:
4
Current Display Mode:
800x600 (32 bit) (optimal refresh rate)
Monitor:
Smile/KFC CA6525DL
Maybe some can offer some help or advice here thanks?

I think you may have to upgrade.
Try re-installing DX, and possibly running your games in win98 compatibility mode first though.

Ok i just been to Driverguide.com and found a driver slightly newer than my last, downloaded, installed the new one, restarted and the problem is the same, i have no Direct3D
Im guessing that since the S3 company decided to stop making new driver files, that because DirectX9 is new, my old drivers arnt supporting it.
This is a b*****d, i got a 3D snooker game i want to play, but the PC crashes, even when i use the DirextX test utility.

I went to driverfiles.net (having searched google for "S3 Trio 3D 356/366 Drivers") and downloaded a driver which is dated 2003 (all previous ones are dated 98/99).
So i downloaded, installed and restarted again. Same problem, i have no Direct 3D
Can i use any Display adapter, or does it depend on hardware, monitor etc?
Has this problem only just started? If so what did you change? Did you just update the drivers then it started?
I recently updated my graphics drivers and I had problems with the new ones so had to rollback.

No, see i dont play games very much, and i have this Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker game for Amiga, and as i never use 3D games i just discovered that im not capable of playing them, seems my current drivers and all drivers i have found on the interweb are outdated for DirectX9
I dont know what to do, can i use an alternative to S3?
Whats model is the graphics card? Any idea if it can run pre Dx9 games though? I've heard of it before where a card creator has stopped updating the drivers, mind was the card stopped being produced a long time ago? that could explain it possibly .

your computer sounds quite old, i would highly suggest you buy a new one, if you don't want to do that, you need to at least go buy a new graphics card. I would get a pci graphics card.
New graphics card should allow the games to run, but they will probably be slow since your computer is old. What is your proccessor and what speed is it. How much ram do you have?

I'd agree with getting a new graphics card but why are you suggesting PCI? Are you just assuming it won't have a AGP slot?
Posted by Madboy I dont want to that, looks like ill just leave it, im not into 3D gaming
the last time I heard my self say that I was using a 486 and that must have been a good 8 years ago .
Back then my PC was limited to only playing RTS games .

My old compaq from '97 didn't have an agp slot... if it does have an agp slot, then get an agp instead of pci

S3 are a rubbish company. Its well known they dont support things properly.
My S3 graphics on my laptop was the reason I got rid of it. Chance are such a old card does not support direct 3d in anyway. Can you not set the game to software render?
Posted by Madboy There is nothing wrong with RTS games
Didn't say there was but that was all I could play back then. no FPS

A driver is what allows your operating system to communicate with your hardware, and make it do things. You can't just make your computer think your s3 is geforce 4 for example... because its not.
