Which one is better for Stand alone applications

    Dear Friends,
I am a vb 6 programmer . I am new to .NET. I would like to know the merits and demerits of .NET platform.

For a stand alone application development which one is better ? (ie database application not web based).

    Please advise.

VB.NET because deployment is easier, there are less headaches, it is more intuitive, and this has been discussed on this forum about 382.7 million times. (give or take a few hundred thousand)

Indeed, the number of individual posts in those threads is larger than the estimated number of elementary particles in the known universe. Critical mass was reached long ago We will all develop radiation sickness and bleed to death internally as a result.

I know VB6 only a little, but surely you can use it if you already know it. VB.NET is not a simple new release of VB.6. To use VB.NET you have to make a little effort, so you can decide to remain on VB.6 for your program, but.....will your programmer's career stop in the next year or two or in the DB application you have to realize? I think you hope to continue developing. You don't need to use VB.NET for now....you are more supported in VB6, at now, but VB.NET is the future, is more powerful, is a real OOP language. If you plane to live more than 2 or 3 years, I think you need to face VB.NET
You will be happy to have done it! (Is my english so awful as I figure it were)

I'd say the only merit of VB 6 over VB.NET is familiarity. It is definately antiquated and getting more so day by day. Better to use .NET for anything meant to last.
