Doh! We've hit a road block! Got abit bored with XP, installed Mandrake, some display issues going on there, and so now were at Win98SE. The problem, I have no drivers for anything, since Toshiba uses Norton Ghost to install everything, making it hard for me to get drivers off the installation cds, and of course they're going to be for xp anyway.
To make matters worse, all I know is that my Toshiba is a Satellite 1800 (no exact model number) and I know that I need an Intel driver for the network card, but again I dunno which. I think it was FastEthernet 10/100, but upon looking at Intel's site there was about a 1000.
Any ideas if there is some kind of generic drivers? (I think its more of a controller than a driver?)
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Got it.
Edit Edit: Maybe not... trying windows update and it just turned the computer off...

Google the model of the latop is about as good as it will get i'd say, see if Windows guesses what it should be, try installing DirectX 9.0b because some things require it to be installed to properly detect some hardware etc.
Why not just go back to XP and forget about 98 anyway?
Or if you wanted to, you could always put the ghost back on, write down the model of the card, re-install 98 and then get the drivers for it.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Its only a Cel1.1, and I find it struggles abit with it after you've used XP for few weeks.
And I'm pretty much screwed at the moment, my graphics (onboard) drivers are for xp only it would appear... so I'm stuck with 16 colours.
Don't forget to install DirectX though, like my motherboard when I bought it ages ago came with this thing that said that it would not work without DirectX 8.1, that's 3 years ago and because Windows 98 comes with DirectX 6 I think, it could be causing driver issues. My copy of Windows 98 did that when I installed it without DirectX 8.1, but after I installed it, Windows detected all the hardware and stuff and all was well.

No luck with DirectX I'm afraid. Will go back to XP for now and them plot my next move.

Yeah, when you do and if you consider going back to 98, make sure that you write down the details of the network card so you can get drivers for it. Look for 98 drivers on the Intel site first, then try www.driverguide.com.
