Changing the machine's name...
I recently changed the name of this computer from MG-ALT to DEV-ALT (policies, you see).
Now, I am able to access the machine as:
http://mg-alt/index.aspx
as well as:
http://dev-alt/index.aspx
Why is this?
I tried pinging these names, both exist with the same IP address.
How can I get rid of "MG-ALT"!!?

In your DNS registar, the old record has not been deleted. If you can get onto your DNS server and look for it, delete it and it will be all good.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

Also, at the command prompt, try typing in ipconfig /flushdns

I don't have access to the servers in this company. I'm assuming the registers get refreshed periodically? If so, I can wait a while and try again, and the old name should be gone. Am I right?

Actually it depends, some don't. There are some that just update them and if the computer cannot be contacted, it doens't change it (like it's off) and the record stays there, others remove them if they can't contact them. Some also link in with the DHCP server and update that way. The best thing todo if the waiting game achieves nothing is ask your admin to do it for you, it's not a hard task (Windows' Servers anyway) and it takes like 2 seconds.
