so exactly what are the plans for...
So how many forum-insert advertisements are you pondering?
1, now 2, what next... 4? ...8? ...16? ...32? ...256?!
Maybe if you direct more advertisements at guests, instead of members... it'd be a good thing.
Pop-up hell, etc... this kind of ad-whoring works well, eh?

Stuck in the 80s
I thought Brad said something once about only one at a time, but I guess it was just wishful thinking.
Bummer.

I assume this is what you referred to...

As to The Hobo's speculations, I've not seen his thread. In my opinion, the thread ads are more valuable if there is a very limited number of them. Additionally, I already vocalized when these first appeard months ago, that I thought they should be kept to a minimum. I received agreement. I believe that one thread ad at a time gives the maximum benefit to the advertisors. I've expressed that opinion to my boss.

I did have an agreement that it would be kept to one; however, because the people who make these decisions also run Jupitermedia (the company), they can change things. I was that there would only be a short time for the overlap of having two ads (like a week or so).
That is what I was told.

It all started about 2.5 years ago when many major contributors left (some of them came back but many did not). Not that this sort of action would force JupeterMedia to change something but it also appears to be unreasonable.
CAN'T THEY JUST MAKE A DEDICATED PAGE TO ADVERTIZE ALL THAT STUFF WITHOUT INTEFERING WITH FORUMS ???

JUST MAKE A DEDICATED PAGE
Let me give a retorical repsonse:
Why don't the television shows move all the ads to a channel we don't watch? And magazines... why don't they publish a separate magazine with all the ads so I don't have to see them in the magazines I actually read?

edit: I forgot to add a smilie

On the other hand, Brad, there are plenty of magazines publishing adds only and tv has this sort of stuff as well.

And there are also plenty of other websites that have far more ads on them, just as some channels have lots of ads on .

My 2 cents...
The point is that lots of things in life aren't free.
Paper & ink to make newspapers isn't free.
Many aspects of television programmes aren't free to make.
Buying & running servers for an internet site aren't free.
Employing staff to do the required work costs money too.
etc...
Whatever media you use, somehow you need to pay for what materials/labour you have used in the process.
You can either charge the end user (as with many magazines/newspapers, some TV channels, and several web sites), or you can sell advertising space/time.
The popularity of your site/magazine/etc determines how much you can charge per advert, so a site as popular as this one can manage with relatively few advertisments compared to other web sites.
We as end users don't pay to use this site, so is it really so bad that you see an advertising thread you can ignore, or a graphical advert? It's not as if there are pop-up windows every time you open a thread (which I have seen elsewhere).
I know that quite often you wont be interested in whatever the advert is selling/offering, but sometimes you will (as I have been myself), or will at least be able to laugh at it for some reason.
We all want as few adverts as possible, but we also want the site to exist.

You always talk this much, si_g ???
Many europian countries run commercials only between the programs, movies, sports events and all of them are doing pretty well ... This country in comparasion has comercialize everything including your life (speaking retorically). I personally rarely watch any adds on tv and almost never pay any attentions to those in the paper/magazine and absolutely never on any website. All of them have one thing in common - annoying the hell of me.
