    Desktop on Laptop -- How??

I've mirrored my desktop drive to a laptop drive and installed it into a DELL Laptop. The CD is set in the BIOS as the secondary boot drive.

The drive boots fine and then PnP starts. For whatever reason PnP will not recognize that the laptop has a CD so hardware configurations can be changed.

The only solution I can think of is to copy the entire OS (CAB files) to the desktop drive before mirroring and then see if it works.

    ANYONE HAVE A BETTER SOLUTION?

    Thanks
    David

Repairing Windows might fix the problem.
I use Microsoft Visual Basic 2005. (Therefore, most code samples I provide will be based around the .NET Framework v2.0, unless otherwise specified)

    Thanks for comment.

Can't use your idea as PnP automatically kicks in on bootup.

Have also tried just booting for a bootable CD. The laptop boots fine from a DOS bootable floppy (win98 startup disk), but doesn't even recognize the bootable CD (win98 startup on CD) even when the BIOS is configured that the CD is the first bootable drive
----- YET both work fine on the desktop.

if i were u, a fresh install sounds better,

with different motherboards from desktops to laptops, even putting the same image from one desktop to another may cause conflicks, unless they are of the same model with same chips and cards in.

i have Dell mahines at work and there are diferences betwwen Gs, Gx1 Gx110, Gx150 and my Gx260 i cant even install Windows 95, from an inmage or fresh install

some times the image works, however if it doesnt, then dont waste time just install from sratch

Maybe it's time to upgrade to XP?
