hehe....Ain't it great, in the Task Manager it thinks you have two processors . I have a 3GHz one and 2GB of 400MHz DDR . What speed is your memory?

I asked for the Speed of the memory . You had already said it was 2GB

Emmm....not sure how to check it apart from the box when you buy it and the actual chip will have it written on.
The speeds you can get are:
266MHz
333MHz
400MHz

Not really...
If you watch your graph(as I have on my Friend's P4 Dell) The use of one CPU seems proportional to the usage of the 'second CPU'. In that, if you flipped the usage graph of the second CPU onto the first, they'd equal about 100%(when running Winamp AVS).

Yea they do, I have seen it when playing games, Occassionally it does appear as if it might go sligtly above though . The point of hyper threading it to be able to switch threads easily if one hangs for a bit so the performance is increased however your only avoiding hangs rather than actually getting more cycles .

Posted by BodwadUK Better for normal applications like Word, Vb etc but no different on games
You sure? Just because GTA: Vice city is a multi threaded game. When it waas coded originally for the PS2 it used the fact that it has two processors so that one processor did the back bround and the other did the closer/normal stuff. When ported to PC I would assume they just kept it as a multi threaded and then wouldn't it take advantage of the hyper threading?
Can't wait for the next generation Consoles. I've heard (from people in the industry) the numbers of processors they are all gonna have and they are stupendus. The microsoft one will be the only one using Multi threading though. I might get this wrong because I heard this a month or two ago but I think it goes:
Nintendo: between 4-6, I'm having trouble remembering this one .
Microsoft: 3 processors (with hyper threading)
Sony: 8 processors
These could change and the Sony one was a very sketchy one but it is expected to have loads .

Jesus4U!!! Man, it's been 4ever since I've seen one of your posts... You're still programming, aren't you?
BTW... I have recently humbled myself through several failed attempts to find the slowest possible machine that will run the Redhat GUI and not drive me completely crazy! So far I'm on a 500 mHz K6-2 w/ 256 MB RAM (it's loading now)... Next I'm goin' to a 1 gig

Now happily married and still crankin' away at the keyboard. Life is grand for a coder, no?

Yes of course I am still programming. I switched jobs and it is consuming alot of my time.
Posted by BodwadUK Not the first time. The Atari Jaguar console had something like 4 processors years ago
But these ones will be wired up this time

The Game I am making with noteme is made to take advantage of hyperthreading and take a look at this screen shot for the game running...
The Start is the game running.....then I minimise it (goes down to 50%), the game goes into a suspended state.......then I maximise it again to close the game.

The game is not made yet...so far we only have the frame work and on my PC it runs at 5900 FPS with no frame limits or anything , we are just trying to optimise it for now so that when we do start on the real stuff we will have the fastest GameLoop possible .
I'll be posting this code for the chasis in the Games Section Soon so that other people can use it to start from....we just have a little error that needs sorting first .
