    what do you mena you can't get it to install? DO you mean you can't install it to use in design, or are you having poroblems with installing it during deplyment.

    Also, sice it isn't a MS product, you may want to try Component1's website: http://www.componentone.com

    What do you mean you don't know if it's the right one or not? How confusing can it get?

    How did you install IIS, and what OS are you running?

    Here's a checklist for Error 1720:

    Installing ComponentOne Controls requires the following:

    * Administrative Permissions
    * Visual Studio .NET 2002 or 2003
    * Windows Installer 2.0 (check the msiexec.exe file version for your version)
    * IIS installed and running

    Make sure that you have a copy of Visual Studio .NET installed on the target machine.

    You may want to try disabling any antivirus software you have running, since this software may cause software installation failures.

    MSI Installers have a known issue with mapped network drives. Copy the installer to the c:\root drive and try running the installation again.

    If you are using the NTFS file system, make sure that the SYSTEM account has full rights over the target installation directory, the directory containing the installer file, and the Windows Installer directory, located at either c:\WINNT\Installer\ (WINNT 4 / Windows 2000) or c:\Windows\Installer\(Windows XP).

    You must be logged in as an administrator of the target computer. You must also ensure that you have full permissions to install on the drive you have chosen. You must have Microsoft Windows Installer version 2.0 or greater to run the MSI package.

    The MSI file may be corrupt. You may also want to try re-downloading the installation package and re-installing it.

    To tell you the truth, I don't know why XP Home exists. It's nothing but trouble for developers. I've been through that point too.

    Now, first thing you do is do a search (Start > Search> Files & Folders) for msiexec.exe. When you find it, right click it and check the Version tab.

    VS.NET doesn't come with the resource kit. It's a program of its own from Microsoft, and very expensive too.

    I believe C1's controls were meant to work only on computers with VS.NET installed, that's their target.

    As for IIS, you're running WinXP HE. It's not possible to install IIS on it the "regular" way, and it's just not worth the hassle doing it through some workaround.
