Best Software Engineering Tool?
I've used IBM Rational but heard MS Visio is good. Rational seems pretty difficult to use.
Any recommendations?

I think it depends on what you want from it - and I think you answered that question by saying that you found Rose difficult.
Possibly you may find the Visio version more accessible. However, it is not as all singing. Are you familiar with UML?
I would imagine there would be a way of getting a trial version - like wiht most MS stuff.

I think Visio is pretty cool, though Rational is extremely good too. If you are used to Visio then you shouldnt have too many problme with Rational if you are using XDE version. Its very very similar to Visio, and it intregrates seamlessly wint VS.Net IDE.
