Actually started my love/hate affair with Americans in Queenstown NZ, (there you go Dennis all the ammo you need), when l was working as an Eighteen year in an ice cream parlour and had to put up with loud mouth obnoxious seppos.

Since have been to the states a couple of times, and found the locals to be good value. Fun, friendly, and not able to understand sarcasm, e.g in New York a guy asked me where l came from, so answered New Zealand, to which he replied "Oh thats somewhere near Dakota right?" To which l replied "No, its no where near Australia" Draw a blank look from him. Got to love this sort of thing.

It would appear that you guys export the most obnoxious members of your society to other countries. (We normally keep ours locked up in the Western Suburbs of our cities). Hence the general low esteem Americans are held in.
