Request to test our vb.net web app
Well, two of us here at our small software company have spent the last four months developing a web application for prospective clients, and we are getting to the point where we want to have others (especially fellow developers) to comment on a few things.
First, this is a Report Incident documenting application. Basically, security forces use it to reports incidents of assault, theft, suspicious behavior, fires, etc...
Here is the address:
http://69.128.23.252/Myxolydian/
The user login is asdf, password is also asdf.
The software allows employees of a security firm or organzation (be it casinos, hotels, corporate retail security) to log security - related incidents.
Bear in mind, the web server we have it deployed at is a lowly Win2k server on a PIII ~700 mhz /512meg of ram using a half T1 connection.
The web app is test against only IE5 + right now (none of our clients have had issues with that!) although mozilla compatibility is something we will address down the road.
Anyway, some comments as far as:
Usability
Security (we don't have SSL enabled on the server right now)
Performance
Its a junk server, but please refrain from obsceneties in the reports, because depending on the timeframe for first demo, we may simply reuse the junk data we have out there.
Thank you.

I'm in Edit Daily Events, and the dropdowns aren't working.

Nice.
The only thing I can suggest is change the "Login" button to an image button that better matches the site colors.
I just clicked on it again and I got this error
Procedure 'MainPageLoad' expects parameter '@fk_User', which was not supplied.

While creating a new Activity Report, I can enter a date, a time, but not the seconds part. It just doesn't budge.
Oh, and forget the previous error, I was on Mozilla that time.

OK, maybe you ought to make that an AM/PM dropdown, I am a simple minded frog, and thought it was for seconds.

Don't let the boss know....else we will have to have a new USB port that goes to your head to read your mind for an input

Very cool indeed.
A couple of things.
1) The Company name at the top is in white..... couldn't see it against the background.
2) The nav menu on the left didn't change my mouse pointer, didn't realize that I could click on the sections until I did it jsut to see what would happen.
3) When I viewed the "My Documents" the menu got all jumbled. Running FireFox 0.8 on WinXP here if that helps.
Didn't poke around too much as I'm still at work, but a _very_ cool site indeed.

Thanks techgnome.
Yes as it stands, the app is only designed for IE5.5+.... All those issues listed result from using Firefox. The company name washes out because the app uses IE's gradient filter to supply the banner background... not sure if that will make it to release anyway.
We have Mozilla compatability destined for a future rollout, but as of yet, none of our prospective clients has listed this as a requirement on their bill of bidding.

thanks...
As a note, I'd like everyone to try the type-ahead feature in the drop down lists... you should be able to type the name of an item in the list inside the box above the list...
I worry about unseen javascript errors... and its hard to know for sure if I caught most of the scenarios.

In the Master Vehicle Search if you place single quotes in all of the fields, it will generate an exception.

Under Shift Information:
You need to validate the dates the user inputs, I put in a date of 1/1/1721 and got an exception:
SqlDateTime overflow. Must be between 1/1/1753 12:00:00 AM and 12/31/9999 11:59:59 PM.
The end date can be before the start date.

Thanks Negative0!
I would say injection attempts would be a valid security trial... so go ahead with that, just don't get too messy with it...

Hopefully by Monday we'll have the security issues ironed out so you will all be able to print the reports to the screen. As is stands, we are awaiting Microsoft's answer...
