I am a teenager, and there are lots of not very smart, and not very considerate people out there who fall into the same catagory("teenager").
but I hate being stereotyped into this bullshit catagory because I am 14, and not <12 or >20..
people think of "us" as irrisponsible, inconsiderate, mean, and liking this music called "rap" and "satanic rock", and always being thought of as deeply depressed and suicidal...
and last of all, mad... at the world..
I know this because of many people I have talked to "in person"
it pisses me off SO MUCH...
I am fairly responsible, I consider other peoples feelings, and well, I am mean sometimes... but only when I am joking around... and I absolutely HATE rap and satanic rock, I like country, and "normal" rock, I also like alternative, like joan osborne, mellisa etherage, and jewel, I also like Hooty & The Blowfish(not sure what catagory that falls under), and sure, sometimes I get depressed, but it's not for the reasons people think(the reasons most people think is "nothing", no reason at all), it's because of... stuff... for example, there is this girl I like, but I never see her and can't ask her out.... Ok, I don't need to start talking about that, but by all means that is not nothing, and as for the "suicidal" thing, I realize life is one of the most precious things you have, and I don't want to end it because I feel bad... it wouldn't matter what emotional pain I was in, what physical shape i was in, I would still want to live, although I am a religious person and do beleive in reincarnation to a point, but I am not 100% sure that reincarnation can really happen, or has happened, so I treasure every precious moment that I have in life, I would never ever kill myself or another person because i realize the value of life.. and a lot of people don't...
what also pisses me off is the way teenagers are pissed at the world, well, who the hell cares?
just because you're too fat, or too skinny, or black or white, that is no reason to be mad at anybody, thats the way it is, if you're too fat or too skinny you may be able to help that, but don't be pissed at everybody for it....
and what REALLY REALLY pisses me off is the kids who would prefer to be a different race, for example, an American("white") wanting to be African American("black")
although you may find the other race more attractive, or better, you know it can't be done unless you pull a michael jackson and get your skin bleached/dyed but that doesn't work all that well, you can still tell MJ is not a "natural white person"
I wish people would just accept who they are... I have and I feel much better about myself than I did when I didn't accept myself...
I realize I am not the best looking person in the world, I realize I am pretty overwieght, and i realize I am not the smartest person, but I accept that... I accept that I am not perfect and never will be. and i accept the fact that I am an Irish and German "white person", and I don't want to be any other race or color because this is who I am.
and i like to dress how i like, not how other people dress,
everyday I wear a pair of black jeans, one of many long sleeved shirts(I have a few colors, dark green, black, megenta, etc.), and a sweater-vest over my shirt..
I don't try to dress "cool" or try to fit in... I don't buy a necklace, or a ring, or a shirt because somebody else has it.... I wan't to be unique, I don't want to be like everybody else..
I wish other people would accept who they were and wouldn't try to fit in.....
it pisses me off..

Look dude.. this may sound retarded and dumb.. but
Stop thinking so much!
The more you think about this crap thats bothering you...the more you are going to become a crouch (or crinch) and an A-HOLE.
I went through the same thing... typical stereotypes, YAPO ( young and pissed off ), and one thing i learned is that you cant do nothing about it, just roll with the punches.

dennis-
I swear to God that the honest convictions that you described were mine about ten years ago. I think that most of the older programmers (>18) respect you guys here. I know that I do.
My youngest brother is 17 years old. We are completely different. When I was his age, t-shirts and jeans were the extent of my wardrobe. I enjoyed going to rock concerts (AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Van Halen, etc.) and hanging with my friends. His lifestyle is completly opposite. He listens to rap, his car is loud and too low to the ground. He cannot even pull into some parking lots because he hit speed bumps!! I still respect him though and I realize that eventually he will like better music.
People respect other people for what is between their ears and not their age. For the young programmers on this website that know multiple languages, they will have little problems finding jobs because there will always be a need for programers and new software to be written (although it may not always be VB).
If people don't respect you because you are young, ***** THEM!

Sophtware:
Stop thinking so much?
why, so I can be braindead like these other morons.. thinking only about sex, drugs, and "cool" cars....
and not worrying about anything else,
I wish I could stop thinking about this subject, but I can't... everywhere I look, I think about it...
for example, my brother fits the common teenager stereotype,
he likes rap, if person or two has a piece of jewelry, he gets that... he wants a low rider car, he slurrs his speech with "Yo!"(Hey You!), "sup?"(Whats Up?) and "mo fo"() and many other things..
and he wears those God awful nylon pants that make a zipping noise when you walk.
and when I go to school, there are so many people like this... sometimes you can't even tell them apart..
Jim:
I have done most of my ranting, I don't have much else to say, well, except a large line of cusswords that would be totally innapropriate for this forum... but thanks,
Dennis

Dennis...calm down.
Relax. Develop a sense of humor about the whole thing. Those kids you describe will have a hard time in life because there is absolutely nothing unique about them. You, on the other hand, will already have a strongly developed sense of who you are while they are still trying to figure it out. You can't stop them from acting and being who they are anymore than we can stop you from being a smart ass. Don't get so wrapped around the axle over something you have no control over. Think of all the good things you have....
1) a screaming system complete with DSL
2) everyone in VB-World to harrass
3) parents that care enough to let you persue your interests in programming
4) everyone in VB-World to harrass you.
Stop with the self-pity will ya?

Dennis, ok getting serious here for a moment
Its a natural part of any teenagers life to rebel against their parents, government, whatever. This is natural and perfectly acceptable to most older people. Although we will ***** about it quite a bit.
Now clearly you have developed your own outlook which doesn't conform to the current expected behaviour of your generation. All power to you, following the current fashions, way of speech etc, turns you into a sheep. Besides as an American with a sense of humour you are probably in only 2.5% group of your country people.
Don't worry us older guys also ***** about the sheep like behaviour of our peers. You know the 9 to 5 with TV to follow mindset. And they give these dregs the vote.
Besides RAP ain't bad, its only missing a C at the start of it.

Did you listen to the lyrics?
This kid thinks everyone thinks he's dirtbag and that no one (especially this girl he likes) likes him. Then he finds out the girl feels just the same way and ends up taking him to an Iron Maiden concert.
The moral of the story is....you're probably not the only one who feels the way you do.
