Don't Panic!
IIS (setting?) Access - When db open in Access - Web pages don't work
Hi,
Windoze xp pro
IIS 5 or 6 (not sure)
MS Acces 2000 (Might be 2003 shouldn't be a prob tho)
For testing Asp pages I open them on my computer, and see how they will work, look etc before uploading. With windoze 98 I had no problem opening access db and refreshing the webpage at the same time.
Yesterday it didn't like it one bit. access opened the db fine, but then the webpages wouldn't read the db (almost like it was exclusive). So, thinking that it was exclusive, I tried opening from windoze explorer, the shortcut in the file menu of Access and from Access open file dialog; all didn't work, the webpages still refused to load data until I closed the Access db (MS Access itself could stay open).
So, the question (finally) :
Is there a setting on IIS which is affecting MS Access like this?

I havent found one myself, but I have had the same problem before (admittedly with an earlier version of Access & IIS).
The may be someone who has a solution for you, if not you'll just have to copy the DB elsewhere before opening it in Access.

Don't think so.
It appears that IIS as a 'user' doesn't have read/write access to the folder. Not quite sure how to set that up, but, I'll find it

Your ovservation is partially right. Thoug in-appropriate persmission is one reason, but there is some other reason why you cant access the db from ASP while its open. I am having this problem even with the permission set up properly. If i try to access the same database from ASP.net I dont get any error, only when i use ASP. So i suspect it is something to do with connection string or some other settings whic señorbadger mentioned.
Let us know how you get on.
